Treat Gauntlets! Oscar Parties! Crepe Trucks! Oh my! Preparing yourself for the unexpected is an important part of the weight loss adventure. Life often throws us curve balls in shape of work doughnuts and unexpected pizza, and just like a Major League Baseball hitter, you have to smash them with a baseball bat. Metaphorically of course. In this episode, Catherine and Donald hammer home the fact that, even after losing 100 pounds, they are still the same people inside who want to eat all the food.
Finally, an actual very special episode of We Only LOOK Thin. Failure is not permanent, but neither is success. Catherine and Donald know this all too well, and in this episode, they talk to Kate, who also knows it all too well. They are three people who know things too well.
After you listen to our show, if you’d like to check out Kate’s Half-Size Me interview, you can find it here:

Have you ever wished that loopholes were more like doughnut holes so that you could eat them? Sure, we all have. Unfortunately, when it comes to weight loss, you can’t eat too many doughnut holes and you should stay away from loopholes entirely. Loopholes are the lies that we tell ourselves. In this episode, Catherine and Donald introduce you to the “We Only LOOK Thin” players and their new hit character, “Grandma Business”. They go through the 2nd half of Gretchen Rubin’s ten logic loopholes and explain how they relate to weight loss. Join them, won’t you?
Loopholes can be a great way to get you out of serving time for that crime you committed. They can also keep you from achieving your weight loss goals. This week, Catherine and Donald talk about the first 5 of Gretchen Rubin’s habit loopholes and how they apply to weight loss. These “loopholes” are little lies that we tell ourselves to get out of doing what we know we should. Sometimes, the biggest liar, is us.
This week, Catherine and Donald make an NPR joke. Then they talk about having a hard week in the weight loss game and the importance of not letting it lead to giving up. After that, they say the word “data” a lot and talk about the importance of collecting it. They tell you that getting on the scale, measuring food, and logging what you eat are all necessary steps to staying on track. Facing the truth can be difficult, but ignoring the information, or telling yourself lies, can lead to self-sabotage and quitting. Sometimes the hardest truths are the ones we tell ourselves. Gosh.
Catherine and Donald give you the skinny (get it?) on how making the healthy choice easier is one of the keys to fitness success. Put the choice you want to make right in front of you and you’ll be more likely to make it. Keep your friends close and your exercise and healthy foods closer. Not buried in the back of the refrigerator under the doughnuts. That’s where your enemies belong.
In “The plan – Part 2 – Electric Boogaloo”, Catherine and Donald continue to break down what they actually did and do to lose weight and maintain fitness. Did you get the “break down” and “Electric Boogaloo” joke? Good Stuff. And so is the episode. They talk about changing their mindset, making extra walking a part of their daily lives, counting calories, and the kinds of foods they eat and when.
Catherine and Donald make a long over-due apology to the people of earth. Then, they get down to brass tacks. And by “brass tacks”, we mean the nuts and bolts. And by “nuts and bolts”, we mean the nitty gritty. Okay, I’ll stop. They talk about their actual weight lass plans and the specifics of what they do. This episode focuses mostly on Catherine and how she changed her eating and added exercise to her life. Part 2 will focus on Donald.
Catherine and Donald reveal their One Weird Trick to Weight Loss! Spoiler alert, it’s not a trick and it’s not that weird. It’s actually a series of sustainable lifestyle changes which begin with a change in mindset and continue with actually doing something. Annoying, right?
In this episode, Catherine and Donald talk about the pluses and minuses of abstaining from certain foods versus enjoying them in moderation. The answer is both. And neither. It’s complicated. Just like the rest of the weight loss adventure (aka “Journey”). And also life. Enjoy!
