Catherine and Donald talk to Kate about being honest with yourself and realize that “mostly doing it on most days” is not the same as really doing it. They also discuss the value of being your true self and not setting unrealistic goals. Even when something seems like it’s now a habit, if you lose focus on it can slip away. Plus, there’s water cooler talk. They literally talk about water coolers and the potential hazards of changing 5 gallon water bottles. They also talk about the best times of year to drink water and how salad is a broad concept. It’s riveting!
You set a weight loss goal, reach it, and then you’re finished, right? Think again. In this episode, Catherine and Donald discuss how “There Is No Finish Line” in weight loss. Successful weight loss is about making changes to your life that you can maintain forever. They talk about how changing your mindset is one of the keys to long-term weight-loss success and about how ultra-restrictive diets only work in the short term. Also, Catherine confuses “psyche” with “jinx”, you get a bonus geography lesson, and learn the difference between “finish” with one “n” and “Finnish” with 2 “n’s”. Is this the final episode of “We Only LOOK Thin”? No. There is no finish line. We told you that at the beginning.
This week, after an amazing introduction, Catherine and Donald have a conversation with Kate about how she’s doing on her weight loss adventure. The three of them discuss fighting off the urge to binge and how tools work much better when you actually use them. They also talk about ways to satisfy cravings and how Strawberries are nature’s Oreos. If you listen closely, you’ll hear Donald get WAY too excited about broccoli. Speaking of broccoli, you get a review of the second album by their favorite band, The Frozen Broccoli Situation.
Gravity. We all complain about it every day, but no one does anything about it. Do you know why? Because we can’t. We have many issues in our lives that we also can’t do anything about, but sometimes those are the issues we spend the most time an energy focusing on. In this episode, Catherine and Donald talk about the “Gravity Issues” surrounding weight loss and how worrying about them can keep us from reaching our goals. They discuss how changing the things that you can control is one of the most important parts of the weight loss adventure. They also give a history lesson involving Sir Isaac Newton and talk a lot about MacGyver for some reason. Enjoy!
It’s our 20th Anniversary episode! Well, actually it’s our 20th episode, but it is our 20th wedding anniversary. Catherine and Donald check in with Kate again and talk about her progress at the 6 week (ish) mark. Catherine creepily knows that Kate was on I-95 and they discuss rest stops and how artificial cinnamon roll smell is pumped into the lobby. The three of them talk about what to do when you make overindulgent food choices for a day (or two) and need to get back on your plan. They also discuss how to set yourself up for success in the first place and Kate introduces Donald and Catherine to a very useful way to judge your own hunger. It also turns out that Catherine is so inspiring that she inspires herself. You want to be inspired, don’t you?
During your weight loss adventure, real life happens and that includes three-day weekends. If you check your Western Calendar, you’ll see that in the U.S. of A., Memorial Day weekend is upon us. Hop aboard the weight loss Winnebago and listen to Catherine and Donald give their practical tips and tricks for surviving road trips, plane trips, boat trips, cross country walks, and other excursions out of town. There might even be a few tips in there for people who stay at home to enjoy their long weekend. And, if you listen closely, you’ll gain some insight on where to purchase a Western Calendar. Enjoy!
Pump Up the Volume is not just a late 80’s dance anthem. Nor is it just an underrated 1990 Christian Slater Movie. It’s also a way to help with weight loss by curbing hunger. Catherine and Donald talk about adding low calorie foods that you still enjoy to your diet so that you can eat more of them. You can eat these foods on their own or add them to other foods that you already enjoy to make them last longer and fill you up sooner. By “pumping up the volume”, you feel more satisfied and hold hunger at bay. If this episode was about adding more fruit spread to your diet, it would be called, “Pump Up the Jam”, but it’s not. If this episode was about getting fruit spread out of your life, it would be called, “Kick out the Jams”, but it isn’t that either. So, how about giving it a listen and “Pump Up the Volume” while you do?
In this ramdazzeleydo episode you learn what “ramdazzeleydo” means. Sort of. Catherine and Donald do a check in and discuss how it’s going. They talk about how changes in schedule can really throw off the weight loss adventure and some techniques for dealing with it. They discuss losing 100 pounds and still being in the “overweight” category on the BMI scale. Stupid numbers. Are late night pickles the solution? Maybe. You have to listen to find out. And Kate returns! We check in with her and see how she dealt with eating on plan at a wedding and how not quitting is a form of quitting in itself. Tune in to find out how. Do you “tune in” to a podcast? No one knows, but the point here is that it doesn’t listen to itself.
This week’s topic is a secret, so we can’t tell you what it is. Wait, that’s not right. This week’s topic isn’t a secret, it is, in fact, secret eating. Catherine and Donald discuss the eating that they did, and sometimes still do, in hiding. They didn’t want co-workers, friends, relatives, each other, and even total strangers to see them eating certain foods, or a certain amount of food for fear of judgement. They even wanted to keep this episode of the podcast a secret. The problem is, even if you eat in secret, the scale always finds out.
Because you demanded it, it’s Kate 2: Judgement Day. You can’t stop her. You can’t reason with her. She makes sustainable life changes that will lead to weight loss success. That’s what she does. That’s ALL she does. Catherine and Donald follow up with Kate, 3 weeks after the initial Kateisode (The Katening?) to see what changes she’s made and how she’s doing. But first, Catherine and Donald talk about avoiding “get thin quick schemes” and deliver the fun-killing news that there is no magic trick to help you lose weight. They also discuss chewing gum and Grandma Business makes a brief appearance. Could it be the greatest weight loss podcast in the history of mankind? Yes.
