In this milestone 300th episode, I celebrate this incredible podcast journey before sitting down with psychiatrist Dr. Matt Bernstein to explore the emerging field of metabolic psychiatry. We discuss how metabolism, nutrition, insulin resistance, ketones, exercise, and stress all influence brain health and mental wellness, and why improving metabolic health may be a powerful tool for supporting everything from brain fog and anxiety to more serious mental health conditions.
Dr. Matt Bernstein is a board-certified psychiatrist and one of the leading voices in the emerging field of metabolic psychiatry. With more than 25 years of clinical experience, he specializes in helping individuals achieve lasting recovery from serious mental illness through nutrition and metabolic therapies. He is the founder of Accord, a comprehensive metabolic psychiatry program, and has served in leadership roles at McLean Hospital and Ellenhorn. Dr. Bernstein also lectures nationally, advises several mental health organizations, and helps advance research exploring the role of metabolism in brain health.

Gut health seems to be at the center of every health conversation, but it's also become one of the most misunderstood topics online. In this episode, I break down what the latest research actually tells us about the microbiome, why so many people feel worse when they start "eating healthy," and the biggest misconceptions I see in my functional nutrition practice. We'll talk about food sensitivities, restrictive diets, stool testing, the gut-brain connection, and the simple habits that make the biggest difference for long-term gut health.

Are fatigue, brain fog, and low energy really just signs of aging? In this episode, I explore emerging research on vitamin B12 deficiency, why absorption matters just as much as intake, and who may be at greater risk for low B12 levels. Then I revisit one of today's most talked-about supplements, creatine, and explain why it's gaining attention far beyond the fitness world. We'll discuss the evidence behind creatine's benefits for muscle, brain health, recovery, and healthy aging, along with practical tips for choosing a quality supplement and using it safely.
