Let's be honest: sometimes reading the label on a bottle of bourbon can be pretty confusing. For this episode, I put together a comprehensive breakdown of some of the main terms, words, and types associated with bourbon, such as high rye, wheated, wheater, small batch, single barrel, barrel proof, cask strength, etc. This episode is your one-stop shop for understanding the rules that determine every word on a label that reads "Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey with a High Rye Mashbill."
Happy New Year! 2022 held a lot of important milestones for the Whiskey Noobs Podcast, which (spoiler alert) is currently the NUMBER ONE hobby podcast in the USA on iTunes! (as of the typing of this description) During this review of the whiskey noobs infinity bottle, I walk through those milestones, and more importantly, I talk about what you can expect to see from the Whiskey Noobs social media channel in 2023
What's the best whiskey in most stores under $40? What got me into whiskey? Is Pappy Van Winkle worth the hype? These are just a few of the questions that I answer in this listener Q&A episode! If you'd like to have a question answered about whiskey, the podcast, or just my life/opinions/etc, you can submit it through my Instagram Story every Wednesday (@Whiskey_Noobs). Cheers!
Penelope Bourbon is a newer sourced brand that has been growing quite a bit in popularity. Many of you have asked for a review, so in this episode I not only do an in depth review, but I also do a quick comparison to Wild Turkey Rare Breed!
Are whiskey reviewers such as myself truly tasting all of the things we say? Could it be the case that everyone's palate is so different that it isn't even worth discussing whisky notes? With a growing online debate about the reality of whiskey notes or flavors, I wanted to sit down and give my take, along with an example review of Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch Whisky.
Have you ever wondered if Glencairns or other tulip shaped glasses truly help with the nose of a whiskey? In this episode, my guest, Zack, and I put that to the test with a blind nosing of our featured whisky. Finally, we give a full review of Glenlivet's Caribbean Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky and round out our thoughts on Glencairns versus rocks/lowball glasses
Should whiskey be enjoyed on ice? What are the staples of bourbon that you should have? What is my hottest take in terms of bourbon?- these are just a few of the questions that I answer in this listener Q&A episode! If you'd like to have a question answered about whiskey, the podcast, or just my life/opinions/etc, you can submit it through my Instagram Story every Wednesday (@Whiskey_Noobs). Cheers!
Woodford Reserve double oaked is a bourbon that is taken out of it's barrel and placed into another brand new, charred oak barrel. In other words, it is "finished" in a second barrel. Does that make it a finished bourbon, or just a bourbon? I don't know, but it definitely makes it worth reviewing.
When you think of Irish Whiskey, what do you think of? I had the pleasure of sitting down with Master Distiller Darryl McNally from Limavady Irish Whiskey and talking about how he wanted to challenge the current status quo with the world's first Single Barrel Irish Whiskey. This is one that you won't want to miss!
Happy Halloween! For this special Halloween episode of Whiskey Noobs, my guest, Justin, and I drink the scariest "whisky" known to man: Fireball. We compare it to Jim Beam's Kentucky Fire, and we talk about our favorite fall-time whiskeys
