Explore insulin’s role in chronic disease as Dr. Ben Bikman reveals how hyperinsulinemia drives obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
Dr. Ben Bikman unpacks why insulin—not calories alone—drives obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. He explains how chronically high insulin creates insulin resistance, fuels metabolic syndrome, and accelerates fatty liver disease, while challenging myths about cholesterol’s role in heart health. This conversation highlights insulin as the key hormone in chronic disease and longevity.
Benjamin Bikman earned his Ph.D. in Bioenergetics and was a postdoctoral fellow with the Duke-National University of Singapore in metabolic disorders. Currently, his professional focus as a scientist and professor (Brigham Young University) is to understand better the role of elevated insulin and nutrient metabolism in regulating obesity, diabetes, and dementia. In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Bikman is the author of Why We Get Sick and How Not to Get Sick.
