Private Practice Success Stories

Working Less, Making More, and Seeing Ideal Clients as a Young Private Practitioner with Luisa Rinaudo

Listen Later

Wondering if you are too early in your career to start a private practice?

You aren’t! In this episode of Private Practice Success Stories, I sat down with one of my students, Luisa Rinaudo, to talk about how she suffered from early career burnout and made the leap to private practice. Now Luisa is working less, making more, and seeing the clients she is truly passionate about on her own terms.

Luisa Rinaudo is the owner of The Therapy Garden, LLC. Her passion for educating and instructing individuals, especially those in the neuro-divergent community has always been a driving force in her personal and professional life. She is the lucky older sister to two siblings, one of which was born with Down syndrome-a superpower as she likes to say! Her brother has given her countless opportunities to find her potential and when she was ready to decide on a career, this is where she landed.

She pursued her Bachelor's degree in early elementary education and special education at Seton Hall University from 2015-2019. After completing her undergraduate studies, she went on to obtain her Master's degree in speech-language pathology from 2019-2021, also from Seton Hall University. Since then, she has been working as a speech-language pathologist in Monmouth County, NJ, serving both pediatric and the adult populations.

She has always wanted to have her own practice and was one of those people who thought it should happen once she was more experienced in her field, but with some words of encouragement she told herself  "What better time to do it than now?!"

While she loves and continues to work with the pediatric population, she has seen the lack of programming out there for adults in this community and she wants to be a part of that change. She wants to give her brother and individuals of all abilities a place where they feel welcome, heard, and accepted. Right now, she has a very small office, but until she is able to provide a bigger space she hopes that she can be a person of comfort and connection with her clients.

In Today's Episode, We Discuss:

  • The clients that Luisa serves in her private practice
  • When Luisa decided to start her own private practice
  • The risk of reaching career burnout
  • How the Start program helped Luisa get going
  • How to know when it’s time to go all in on your private practice
  • What a typical day in Luisa’s life as a private practice owner looks like
  • The flexibility you can get as a private practice owner
  • How Luisa was able to get a physical office space
  • The community-based services Luisa offers

I hope you enjoyed this episode with Luisa! She is a perfect example of someone who knew that she was heading toward burnout and decided to make a change so that she could live the life that she wanted while staying in the career that she loves.
