In my country, there are a lot of people who have made great contributions for the betterment（改善） of our society. At this time, I am proud to talk about the father of Alibaba.

He is Jack Ma. If you are going to look at his physical appearance（外貌）, he is just common and might look like an ordinary one. He is short in height but has a big impact on every Chinese citizen.

Jack Ma has developed a lot of websites and applications（应用） that have greatly changed our daily lives. Alibaba, his company, is the top shopping website in our country. Through his company, our shopping experience（购物体验） became easier, safer and better. Instead of going out of our house, we just need a click on our phones and just in a few days or hours, we would immediately get our stuff（东西） at the door of our houses. Jack Ma also developed Alipay. This is an online payment（在线支付） application, which is an alternative（替代物，选择） of using cash or paper money. At this period of health crisis, Alipay is indeed very useful in reducing contact（减少接触） with other people. Instead of handing them personally the money, we could just scan through our phones. Hence, his creation is a safe tool against Covid-19.

Besides, Jack Ma has been donating a lot of money to charity groups. He had been so passionate（热诚的）about helping people, especially those who live under the poverty line（处于贫困线以下）. He provides food, shelters（住处，避难所） and education to them by using his own money.

We, in China, are very grateful to the contributions of Jack Ma. Our country has developed well because of his initiatives（倡议） and projects.

I’m going to tell you about a walk that I did which was very long. This is a walk that goes round the coast(海岸) of my country. In fact, it would take many, many days to complete the whole walk. I went with my friends - there was a group of 6 of us and we were all into hiking. We decided to do this walk because we thought that it would be challenging(有挑战性的). This was about 3 years ago just before I started my university course. It was in the summer but it wasn't so hot. It took us five days to do the section of the walk that we were interested in and we camped at night - this meant that we had to carry our tents and all our equipment which made the trip even more challenging. The scenery was really spectacular. There was a mixture of cliffs and beaches(悬崖和海滩交织在一起). We were very lucky with the weather because it didn't rain at all. I hate camping in the rain and trying to put the tent up(搭起帐篷) when everything is wet! I remember this walk very well because it was a wonderful time that I spent with my friends before we all went to different universities. I was also very happy that we were able to do the whole walk that we had planned.

I have to admit, this is a tough one but what immediately sprung into my mind(我突然想到) is money. Basically, it’s an integral(不可或缺的；必需的) part of one’s life. Imagine a world of being penniless(身无分文的). I wonder how we can make it through the day(我们如何度过这一天). We need these bills in order to procure our basic needs(满足我们的基本需求) such as food, shelter, clothing, and other necessities(必需品). It’s so weird(奇怪的) that this piece of paper can either make or break a person.

Gone are the days of barter(物物交换的日子一去不复返了) so in contemporary times(当今时代), I need money so I can buy my needs and wants. I can use it so I can make financial transactions, pay my bills, and use it as a way to acquire products and services.

Let’s be honest, I’m not the only one who thinks money is something they can’t live without. As a matter of fact, people go through such great lengths(人们经历了如此漫长的过程) so they can have tons of it that they have to work day in and out(日复一日地工作) so they may have the means to achieve comfort and luxury. In addition, others think that money is the root of all evil(万恶之源). I don’t deny the fact that there’s truth to it. People tend to be greedy(贪婪的) and they commit crimes(犯罪，作奸犯科) just to obtain cash. While others think it is their happiness.

Ultimately(最终), I understand that money is just a tool but it’s a means to an end(它是达到目的的手段).

It is undeniable（不可否认的） that driving is one of the practical（实用的） skills. Everyone, in this day and age（在这个时代）, has to acquire it as it is evident（明显的） that driving to work everyday or travelling to far-flung destinations（遥远的目的地） on holiday breaks（假期休息）has become a trend in the past decades.  

I do remember, when I reached 18, I had decided to get a driving license. The problem was that taking driving lessons in a driving school was helpless(没有用地） at all. I hate to admit it, but I failed to pass the two practical examinations. I guess I wasn't gifted（有天赋的） on that. Butthanks to my grandpa who came to my rescue（把我解救出来）, I finally learned how to drive.

My grandpa was a professional driver. At first, he eagerly（热心地） taught me how to maneuver the wheels（操纵车轮）. When i was available, he would ask me to practice driving, using his 1970's BMW vintage car（老式汽车）which was old and classy（古老而优雅）. So obviously, my hands were shaking（发抖） and my knees（膝盖） were knocking against each other（互相撞击）. I was completely aware（意识到）that this vehicle was precious（珍贵的） to him and I had to give extra care for（给予额外的照顾） it.

Anyway, through my grandpa's guidance and trust in my ability, I am now able to drive  my own wheels（自己开车） anywhere I want, and for that, I would love to express my gratitude（表达我的谢意） to him who didn’t stop encouraging me to learn.

I’m going to tell you about a story that I heard. I heard it on the radio a few days ago. So I can remember it well. It was about a wild(野生禽鸟) bird which is quite big and black. I’m not sure what kind of bird it was but it was a common(普通的) one. 

Well, one day, a little girl was giving food to a group of birds in her garden whileher mother was helping her. Then the wild bird came in the garden to take some food, but the little girl didn’t notice it.

Then, one morning, the little girl found a piece of shiny(闪闪发亮的) paper in the garden on a table where she gave food to those birds. The paper was quite pretty so she took it into the house. After that, there was something on the same table every morning.It was always something shiny and pretty but small. Nobody could understand where these things were coming from.

Anyway, a few weeks later, the little girl woke up early and she decided tofigure out（弄明白） what would happen on the table. So she watched the table from the window of her bedroom. She saw a big black bird coming to the table and leaving something shiny there. Magically（神奇般地）,the bird was saying thank you for the food. After that, she saw the bird left many things on the table. She was so joyful（开心） and she always gave this wild bird some food.

I remember this story because it’s such a lovely story and I think it’s amazing（奇迹般的）that a bird could say thank you like a person does.

One song I find very interesting is the old song entitled, "Blue and White Porcelain". It was sung by the multi-talented（多才多艺的） artist, Jay Chou. He is a renowned（著名的） award-winning（获奖的） singer and composer in China and his popularity even has spread across the globe.

"Blue and White Porcelain" left a deep impression on me due to the fact that it is a poetic（充满诗意的） song that describes traditional Chinese porcelain（瓷器）. However, in this song, the porcelain symbolizes a precious woman. It’s about aswordsman（剑客） who has lost his lover, and he shows his great love and devotion by comparing her with the intricate（复杂的） designs and artistic creations displayed in the porcelain. He wants to express his affection as a timeless piece of art. This can be a constant reminder of how much he truly feels for her despite her absence.

The lyrics captivated（迷住，使...着迷）so many hearts of the listeners that it even won best lyrics in China. Although it’s a relatively old song already, it’s still considered anall-time favorite song（一直最受欢迎的歌） in our country since it also promotes the rich Chinese traditional culture of porcelain making. And without a doubt, it’s still famous among teenagers due to its wonderful melody thathas positive vibes（积极的氛围）.

I believe that a home should be filled with laughter and joy. So, I want my house to be big enough to fit the people who I love the most. I love taking photos, so this will be perfect for the sun-kissed look I’m always looking for. Aside from this, I want to have a nice balcony(阳台) where I can sit and drink my coffee while enjoying the view.

In the living room, I want to have a fireplace(壁炉) where we can all hang out, heat marshmallows(棉花糖), and exchange stories about our day. It should have five rooms and a spacious(宽敞的) common area. Also, rooms would be painted with a light color since it makes the room feel brighter and larger while creating a pleasing(令人愉悦的) atmosphere. Moreover, being an artist, I want my art displayed. It will be a constant reminder(不断的提醒) to keep on going(继续前进) and to keep on creating. After all, art makes a home more human.

Moving on to the kitchen, I want it to have an oven and a dishwasher. These were things that I did not grow up having(从小就没有), so owning one would feel like an accomplishment(成就). My sister loves baking pastries(烘焙糕点), so it will be fitting for her. As for my bedroom, I want it to have a huge mirror for my vanity(虚荣). Since I will most probably spend a lot of time here, a mini-fridge, big flatscreen television(宽屏电视), and a walk-in closet(步入式衣帽间) are quite essential. The thought of it makes me so excited! I can’t wait to finally build my dream home.

I have had ambitions in my life. I have achieved some of them but I have failed to achieve other ambitions. The reason for my failure to achieve a goal has always been associated with（与之有关的） my lack of motivation. So, today, I want to talk about an ambition that I was really motivated to achieve and that ambition was to settle in Canada. I think it all started about five years ago, when one of my close friends moved there. Before that, I was completely unaware about（完全不知道） life in Canada. His words have built a fairytale image（建立了一个童话般的形象） of Canada in my mind. He told me about the difference in the quality of life（生活质量） between China and Canada. The healthcare（医疗服务） and the education system in Canada are miles ahead（遥遥领先）. There is no corruption（腐败）; there is very negligible crime（非常微不足道的犯罪行为）; and more than anything else;there is value for labour（劳动是有价值的）. Honestly, it would be a dream come true if I could live in Canada, however, as you can imagine, nothing comes easy. A few years ago, as I tried applying for different universities. It required me to take different English exams to check my proficiency(熟练程度), but I failed every time. This made me feel miserable(悲惨的) as I was not sure what I was doing wrong. I attempted(尝试) several times but I was not lucky enough to get the score that I needed. That was the time I decided to just leave the thought(留意) of moving to Canada behind. Frankly speaking, it wasn't an easy decision to make. All those plans that I had were just neglected(被忽视的), but I tried to stay positive(保持乐观) . Even if I couldn't make my Canadian dreams come true, I am still willing to try my luck in other countries, and that is why I am taking the IELTS examination again. Even if I fail today, I will try again because I am really motivated(有动力的) to fulfil this ambition(实现这一目标) this time.

Well, I could say that I am a very fashionable and stylish kind of person. I am fond of collecting different styles of dresses from different fabrics（质地，布料） or even different countries.

Today, I want to share with you one of my favorite clothing I have received.

Actually, it is just a black and white t-shirt. It is a shirt with a profound（深远意义的） print on its front and back part. On the front part, a famous line from the late Kobe Bryant was imprinted. Whenever I read that line, I always feel encouraged and driven in my goals in life. On the back part of this shirt, there is another line from a famous singer who is Justin Bieber. This line is all about loving myself by accepting my flaws or imperfections（缺点或不完美）.

This shirt was given to me by my best friend who has a good taste in fashion as well. She sent it to me since she knows that I am fond of dresses or shirts with meaningful lines or prints on it. She sent it to me during my birthday last year. At first, I thought that my best friend didn’t have any gift for me. After we sliced my birthday cake（切蛋糕）, she finally gave me this gift wrapped in a special paper.

I am very thankful to Fiona for giving me this kind of clothing or gift. I hope that I could also give her a T-shirt with powerful lines like what I got.

"There are friends, there is family, and then, there are friends that become family." This quote reminds me of my best friend, Belle, whom I love spending most of my time with more than any other friends I have. I met her when we were only in third grade in elementary school. After that, our intimacy(亲密;密切) developed and we became best friends.

Our friendship started when I noticed this transferee(转学生) from another school. She was a loner（独来独往的人）, and that's the time I kicked off（开始） by introducing myself and offering my desk with her. We talked for a long time after our classes and our friendship began. Although we parted ways in secondary school because I transferred to a new school, our paths crossed again when we both entered the same university. There, we began meeting and hanging out whenever we want.

We are yet to finish our graduation and both of us are occupied with our own stuff but whenever we get vacations, we spend time together. Since we live in the same town, we visit each other's houses and thus we meet at least twice a month.

She is a kind and talented person who helps people and always wishes the best for others. I like to spend time with her because we have many common grounds(共同点). I never feel bored spending time with her. Since we are friends for a long time, we know each other inside and out（从内到外地；彻底地）.
