  • Professional Triathlete Jason West - "Never give up. Don’t ever give up"
Let's start this post with massive namastes, and congrats to Jason for claiming the 2nd podium spot at the PTO US Open in Milwaukee, WI, this past weekend and putting down an insane run split over his competitors. Well done.
We caught up with Jason at the beginning of his taper for this race, and he admits to feeling top-notch.
As of July 31st, Jason is ranked 16th in the world and 3rd in the US according to the Professional Triathletes Organization, and if he keeps racing like he did last weekend, we're sure to see him climbing those ranks steadily.
Jason started his triathlon career at sixteen and acquired a high level of mental toughness early on as his training consisted of one-speed, full gas. Jason continued to race through college, where he studied kinesiology and then headed to Boulder to pursue a triathlon career.
And that leaves us where we stand now, an ever-emerging star in the sport of triathlon and an absolute threat to all his competitors on the run. We are so grateful to have shared this conversation with Jason and loved his energy and take on mindset.
    In this episode, we discuss:
    - Self-coaching with a close network of advisors
    - Working through nerves and challenging workouts
    - Having a strong work ethic
    - Early triathlon training plan
    - Learning how to mentally cope with suffering
    - Mindset training
    - Moving forward from poor race performances
    - Needing the contrast to strengthen our desire
    - Loving the process
    - Making money as a PRO - finding a way
    - The race that kept him going
    - Betting on yourself
    - Working with doubt and negative self-talk
    - Jason’s exciting month of racing ahead

  • Professional Triathlete Tamara Jewett On Going All In And Brutal Acceptance Of The Now
Tamara Jewett has become a prominent competitor since turning pro in 2019 and, just this year, threw everything into the basket of triathlon when she left her full-time career as a lawyer and went full-in to training and racing as a pro.
Tamara kicked off the year with a win at the iconic Ironman 70.3 Oceanside, a season opener like no other known for its honest course and A-list competition. Competing alongside Paula Findlay and current Ironman world champion Chelsea Sodaro, Tamara was 4th out of the swim, 5th off the bike, and then took the win after throwing down a 1:13:00 half marathon.
She placed 6th at the PTO European Open in early May and followed it up with 2nd at 70.3 ex-en-Provence a few weeks later.
Tamara has a background in high-performance middle-distance track, and since turning to triathlon, she became the first woman to run under 74 minutes at a 70.3.
Triathlete.com launched an article in April claiming that Tamara is becoming the most feared runner in triathlon.
We have a feeling she will continue to blow our socks off, and we're so excited to dive into the story of this incredible athlete.
    In this episode, we discuss:

  • George Greco On Planting Seeds Of Possibility & Racing Ultras At Age 75
We are in person for this episode with San Diego running legend George Greco. And although his legendary status is well known in this area, I imagine by now that the trickle effect of George's presence far exceeds Southern California.
George quit cigarettes for running shoes at the age of 45 after his young daughter asked him to stop smoking for her birthday. He ran his first ultra-marathon at the age of 69 and, since tying up his laces, has raced over 600 races with close to 400 1st place finishes in his age group and was ran himself just 3 seconds shy of the all-time record for his age at the well-known State Street Mile in Santa Barbara, California.
He has lived a life, hit rock bottom, woken up, and now shares his joy for life and running with all who cross his path. I was fortunate to align with this fine sir shortly after moving to San Diego, and one of the first things he said to me was, "punch me in the stomach." If you know George, you've most likely been asked the same and found the same thing I did - a rock solid core on a 75-year body, a vessel he uses as a laboratory in his endless pursuit to be an experiment of one for his life.
    In this episode, we discuss:
    - poet at heart
    - self-talk that pulls you away from your goal
    - finding your edge
    - George pre-running
    - time with Timothy Leary  & Ram Dass

  • Isaac Diaz, Professional Triathlete On The Power Of Prana And Living Our Zone Of Genius.
Today we are so grateful to be sitting in person with professional triathlete, coach, and scientist Isaac Diaz. Isaac's mission within his work in the world is to positively transform lives through sport and help bring humanity to a higher state of consciousness.
He is an avid practitioner and teacher of pranayama, or exercises to control the breath. This powerful practice leads to the management of life force, which is the vibrant energy that moves our breath.
He uses this discipline to increase vitality in the whole person, ultimately leading to optimal performance in sport and life. And like all authentic teachers, he is practicing what he teaches as he moves closer to his highest expression.
Believing that we live in a universe of growth, Isaac is always looking for the next step, and this year he moved from elite age group athlete to the professional ranks.
Last month, he placed 11th at Ironman 70.3 St. George in what he called a "nice breakthrough" performance, and only days ago, he announced that he will dial it up to the full distance in a few weeks at Ironman Couer d'Alene.

  • Corey Bellemore, Professional Runner and Beer-Mile Legend On Living The Journey As The Destination
We are thrilled to be welcoming Corey Bellemore to the show today. Although we have known of Corey for some time now, we were introduced to him last month by Heather Sloane of Heali Medical.
Corey is one of Heali's athletes receiving the great benefits of their magnesium and menthol-infused K-tape.
Heather and her business partner Li, were the guests of episode 365, which launched in March of this year, so make sure to listen to that episode.
Meeting Corey and having him here with us today is yet another example of the power of community and the connection that naturally arises from within.
Corey is a Canadian track and field athlete with insane personal bests like 3:57 for the mile, 3:39 for the 1500m, and 1:47 for the 800 m.
He is a National medalist and well known for being the Beer Mile World Record Holder, which he ran in 4:28. Corey has a background in competitive swimming from high school and has been known to train with some well-known professional triathletes so we'll see where that's all leading.
