  • 20. Are those 'bad habits' still bad habits?

Sometimes we need to remove certain habits or activities from our lives because they were causing us physical, emotional, or spiritual harm, and doing so is a brave act.

That said, we oftentimes grow in fantastic ways that allow us to reintegrate these habits and actions!

    Episode Takeaways:

-I talk about my iffy past relationships with credit cards, as well as having to stop exercises while my body healed

-I share how I was able to fully and slowly integrate these habits back into my life

-I touch on the three reasons why it's good to check in on these 'former bad habits' to see if our relationship with them has changed

-I suggest taking time to look at your habits and seeing if there are ones you can test the waters in again

-Spoiler: it's totally fine if some still don't serve you! That knowledge is power

  • 17. Forgive yourself for those times you feel closed off

    Episode Takeaways:

I tried 3x to record an episode about bad days and it just wasn't clicking. So the 4th time I sat down and just talked about an experience I had 2 weeks ago where I just let myself be, even if that version of me being wasn't the most open, bubbly, or safe-feeling.

-I talk about how I caught myself feeling "closed off" one morning on a walk

-I share how I almost caught myself forcing myself to feel more open and even (cringe) diving into the icky energetic ideology that feeling closed off will attract something bad!

-I gave myself permission to just be and acknowledge that some days I don't feel very open and that's okay

-I discuss the differences of wanting to feel closed off for protection and 'just because' vs closed off because you're afraid of being seen yet want to be!

-I touch on very real past experiences that might make a person feel closed off

  • 16. Creating a sustainable meditation practice

    Episode Takeaways:

-I talk about having a strong 'why' in starting a meditation practice

-I dispel the notion that after a '21-days to meditation practice' that you'll be a great meditator! It can take years to develop a practice, and that's okay!

-I encourage you to play around with meditating and find what works best for you; rituals or basic? Guided or silent? Sacred space or plop down anywhere?

-I give a gentle reminder that your meditation practice will shift over time and to be okay with those shifts

-Even if you don't have a "traditional" meditation practice, I give some tips on activities that can help you slow down!

-I give a compassionate reminder that sometimes, depending on our past experiences, it can feel unsafe and very uncomfortable to meditate and that's okay. Go at it at your own pace.

-Meditation is beautiful, but it isn't the end-all-be-all in the spiritual journal!

    Episode Takeaways:

-I talk about this sentiment that gets shared a lot in the recovery community about feeling "squirrely" around our anniversary months & why that's not a view we always need to buy into

-I discuss how you can find joy in your anniversary month, because it is so exciting!

-Moving over to a similar topic, I talk about how October used to be a hard month for me because of two traumatic things that happened when I was drinking, and how I "took back October" and you can do the same too!

-Basically, this is a very uplifting podcast about questioning narratives that keep us scared and turning negative experiences into positive ones
