I've been told I couldn't do a lot of things because of my age. This has been going on for almost 20 years. If I listened to everyone's advice, I would just be another 60-year-old woman wearing age-appropriate clothes, engaging in age-appropriate activities (whatever that means!) and following the sheep and the shoulds of society.
