We also discuss Renee’s strategy of implementing natural consequences from the tantrum. She prefers natural consequence as opposed to punishing with “time outs” or taking things away from the child.  She discusses the ultimate goal of learning to self-regulate.

Episode 10  of Ask Dr Jessica with Dr Andrew Freedman, the director of Pediatric Urology at Cedars- Sinai hospital is a discussion of the most common questions about a child's penis.  For example, how common is micro-penis really? How to properly clean a penis?  At what age will the foreskin retract naturally? Is there a medical benefit to circumcision? In this weeks episode of Ask Dr Jessica, she talks to Dr Andrew Freedman, the director of Pediatric Urology at Cedars- Sinai hospital.  First they discuss what a pediatric urologist is exactly, and what conditions they treat most commonly.   Dr Freedman talks about hydronephrosis (@5min), a commonly found condition discovered on prenatal ultrasound. They next discuss about common pediatric issues related to peeing and pooping (@7:06), such as constipation, potty training, overactive bladder (@17:41) and bed wetting (@27:45).  

Dr Freedman is a pediatric urologist who practices at Cedar Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.  Dr Freedman  has the unique ability to explain complicated medical issues in an easy to understand manner.  His research focuses on prenatal evaluation, urinary tract issues with children and incontinence.  

Dr Jessica Hochman is a board certified pediatrician, mom to three children, and she is very passionate about the health and well being of children.  Her podcast discussions are targeted towards general pediatric topics and presented in an easy to understand manner.

In this weeks episode, Dr Jessica Hochman interviews Dr. Amy Gelfand, accomplished pediatric neurologist and headache specialist about pediatric headaches. We review the most common pediatric headaches: tension headaches, migraine headaches and post traumatic headaches. We discuss how to prevent headaches and how to treat headaches. We also review myths about migraines (like does eating chocolate really trigger a migraines?!) and when to see a doctor. We review warning signs for headache emergencies. Dr. Gelfand attended Harvard Medical School, and completed her Pediatric Residency and Child Neurology training at UCSF.  She is a board certified Child Neurologist and is currently the Director of Pediatric Headache at UCSF.

Dr Michelle Kelman, DDS.  We answer all of your common pediatric dental questions!  We discuss what are the best practices to brushing teeth (@1:15).  We also discuss cavity prevention, toothpaste (@4:00), pacifiers, bottles, thumb-sucking (@17:18), teeth grinding (@23:45) and more.  And we get into the great dentistry debates--such as what is the best practice: flossing after brushing or vice versa  (@6:58)?  We also discuss what parents can do in the situation of various dental emergencies (@27:00).

 In 2008, Dr. Kelman founded the Pediatric Dental Center in the Cedars Sinai Medical Towers and was director and chief clinician from 2008-2021. She has been on medical surgical staff at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center since 2008, and was the pediatric dentist for the Cedars-Sinai Craniofacial Team. She is a lecturer at the UCLA School of Dentistry, Department of Pediatrics, and served as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Herman Ostrow USC School of Dentistry.
