After two days of intensive talks in London, Chinese and U.S. trade officials have reached a framework agreement, following up on prior discussions between their heads of state and earlier talks in Geneva.

China’s Vice Commerce Minister Li Chenggang said the deal builds on the June 5 call between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump and the May 10 Geneva meeting. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed both sides had agreed on steps to implement the Geneva consensus. Final approval now rests with Xi and Trump.

While details of the framework remain unclear, questions linger over whether China’s recent move to leverage rare earth exports influenced the outcome. As tensions persist, observers are watching to see which side is better positioned for the long haul.
