In our last couple +1s, we’ve been hanging out with Socrates and Hercules and Epictetus, and, most importantly, the goddess Areté.

 

She promised us true happiness and the favor of the gods but she told us “I will not delude you with promises of future pleasure; I shall give you a true account of the facts, exactly as the gods have ordained them. Nothing that is really good and admirable is granted by the gods to men without some effort and application.”
