Be very careful when practitioners use the term functional. It may not be the "Real" functional!

A practitioner can use that functional term and if they are only looking at one "thing" and saying we will deal with that other "thing" down the road like your Hashimoto's, that's a problem. I always use the both/and philosophy. We will look at BOTH "things" AND this, that and the other thing as well. Everything is intertwined.

It is OK to start with looking at the thyroid, but in the functional world, a full thyroid panel including free T3, Reverse T3, and both antibody tests must be included to see the full picture. See where all these lab values are at and at the same time, we must look at insulin, iron, vitamin D, ferritin, iodine, zinc, selenium etc. This is what the "Real" functional word means....looking at the whole picture.
