www.lovingdifference.netA subject close to our hearts, the education system has been problematic for both our families. We are all still experiencing the repercussions of a system which did not meet the needs of our young people. As parents, we had to shift our mindset and change our priorities. We had to make mental and emotional health a priority over school.Stepping away from the social narratives around education can feel lonely, but we offer you hope and encouragement that learning can take place at any stage in life. We don’t need to buy into the conditioning of age related expectations. So, if school is causing anxiety, meltdowns, shutdowns, overwhelm and unhappiness for your young people, please know that you are not alone. If your child is continuously in trouble because they struggle to focus or cannot control their impulsivity, you are also not alone. Neurodivergent young people are struggling in our school systems both here in the UK and elsewhere. Many are without school placements due to anxiety based school ‘refusal’ or exclusion. We share what we changed to help our young people get through the system and to move on. Heather shares some tips on protecting yourself from the authorities in the event that your child is unable to attend school because of anxiety.Everyone needs to find their own path and make their own decisions, but if you want a safe and friendly place to explore this further, you will receive a warm welcome in Loving Difference.
