There have been many polls done on this subject and it is interesting that for most men, they value being respected more than they value being loved. 

This shows how important respect is in marriage and that marriages can't survive (or flourish) without it. However, there are often times in marriage where the respect fluctuates and can be lost, based upon certain things that happen.
