161: Is Your Partner A Messy Slob?

Listen Later

Taking out the trash, washing the dishes and cleaning the room all sound like pretty normal household tasks. However, when you share a house with a partner, these tasks can lead to arguments, resentments and problems in your relationship. Listen to today’s episode to learn how to best communicate and navigate the division of labor in your household.

In this episode we discuss relationship advice topics that include:

  • Learn why you need to be clear about each partner’s roles in the household
  • Being honest about your needs and how to share with your partner
  • How to use “I” language to productively communicate with your partner.
  • The importance of negotiating roles throughout the relationship.
  • And much more!

Dr. Marisa T. Cohen is an Associate Professor of Psychology, relationship coach, and relationship scientist. Her research focuses on peoples’ perceptions of first date success and consensual non-monogamy. Dr. Cohen is the author of two books, a Psychology Today blog and Love Lessons, a Long Island Weekly newspaper column.
