232. How to Move Beyond The Thought You Are Not Enough

Listen Later

This episode invites you to stop living from a place of inadequacy and instead embrace your inherent worth. By letting go of judgment and stepping into mindfulness, you can make decisions from a place of power, confidence, and authenticity.

Jessie dives into one of the most common challenges many healthcare professionals face: the feeling of being "not enough." Whether it’s feeling unworthy, inadequate, or undeserving, these thoughts can hold us back from living and performing at our highest levels. If you’ve ever struggled to accept compliments or gifts, or find yourself questioning your value, this episode is for you.

Key Takeaways:
  • The Power of the "Not Enough" Thought: Feeling unworthy may have been a driving force that got you to where you are today, but it’s not going to get you to where you want to go. We explore how these limiting beliefs can influence how you show up in the world and the results you achieve. When you feel inadequate, it’s likely that you won’t perform at your best or engage with life as your wisest, most productive self.

  • The Impact of Feeling Unworthy: How do you feel when you think you're unworthy or inadequate? How do you show up in your personal and professional life when these thoughts dominate? The way you perceive yourself shapes how you interact with the world. It can prevent you from making authentic decisions or fully engaging in opportunities that come your way.

  • Practical Questions to Challenge "Not Enough": In this episode, I encourage you to ask yourself powerful questions to shift your perspective:

    • Do you want to make decisions from a place of "not enough"?
    • Can you make authentic decisions from this space?
    • What else is true about your worth?
    • Are you average? Above average? Adequate?
    • Can you let go of the black-and-white thinking of "enough vs. not enough" or "worthy vs. unworthy"?
  • Breaking Free from Judgement: The episode challenges the "all-or-nothing" mindset. Could you release the concept of worthiness or adequacy entirely? Instead, consider focusing on being human, practicing mindfulness, and embracing the following qualities:

    • Patience with yourself.
    • Self-compassion in your journey.
    • Kindness toward yourself and others.
    • Trust—letting go and trusting the process.
    • Intention and attention in your decisions.
    • Non-judgment of yourself and others.
  • The Role of Community in Moving Beyond "Not Enough": Overcoming feelings of inadequacy is something we actively work on in Ongoing Presence and Transition Well—two of our small group offerings. These groups provide a safe, supportive space for women in medicine to explore and move beyond these limiting beliefs. The camaraderie and shared experience are transformative, offering time to practice, integrate, and explore new ways of being.

    • Group Format: Both Ongoing Presence and Transition Well are small, intimate groups (limited to 12 women). They meet twice a month in the evening, with flexible scheduling across all time zones. These groups are only open twice a year, in January and late August.

    • What to Expect: If you want to stop living from a place of "not enough" in 2025, these groups provide the perfect environment to shift your mindset and experience a different way of being. The support of like-minded women will help you integrate this work into your life in meaningful, lasting ways.
