One of the best things I've ever heard someone say is that your environment will always trump your willpower. If you want to get fit and live a healthy lifestyle but you keep hanging around people who eat fast food you will give in more times than not. If you want to invest your money but you keep hanging around people who carelessly spend yours you will do the same. If you want to change your life, change your environment.

Instead of making goals and trying to achieve them on your own or constantly trying to go against the grain because everyone in your circle is doing the opposite of what you want to do - insert yourself in a new circle where your goal is the norm. Then the question will be - "why haven't you done this yet?" vs discouragement.
