The One Day At A Time Recovery Podcast

324 An Alternative Path To Recovery, Overcoming Shame and Creating A Sober Community

Listen Later

If you're listening to this podcast, I'm sure you're familiar with the whole shame spiral of drinking. You know, swearing to yourself that you'll never drink like that again, the rush of shame and anxiety after a bad night of drinking, only to find yourself feeling better by evening and starting the cycle all over again.

Well what if nobody is telling you your drinking is getting out of hand? What if you have to come to that conclusion all on your own? That's exactly what happened to today's guest.

In this episode, I'll be joined by Author, Ted Talk Speaker and recovery advocate, Samantha Perkins, who not only shares the dark side of drinking, but how she found her own path to recovery, outside of traditional programs.

We do mention a ton of books, so I would like to encourage you to check out our partner, Audible. It's a monthly membership where you can download all the books we mention, but in audio format, and oftentimes, read by the author, which is really cool.

For me, audiobooks are great because I can listen when I'm walking the dog, working in the garden, puttering around the house, driving, working out… you get the picture. In fact, I have grown so accustomed to listening to books, I rarely buy the physical copies anymore.

And for my listeners, you can actually get your first book free when you sign up, by visiting odaatchat.com and clicking the Audible logo on the right. I actually have 211 titles on my phone right now, so when I tell you it's awesome, I'm not even exaggerating…

Anyway, I'm really excited to share this conversation with you, so without further delay, please enjoy this episode with Samantha, and let me know what you think!
