People pleasing, or authenticity suppression as we like to call it, is a natural adaptive mechanism humans have used for centuries to attain approval, acceptance, and ultimately, safety. While in conscious, small doses this social mirroring can help us feel connected and related to others, it can also begin to erase our sense of self and our confidence if used too much.
People pleasing is not just constantly saying 'yes' or overextending yourself...it also exists in more subtle, hidden ways that are often internalized. Perhaps it's the way you lie about your favorite music to seem more agreeable or refuse to pick a place to eat in the feared event that someone else disagrees with you. It's not always in your behaviors but often found in your unclaimed truths.
In this episode, we talk about the ways you might still be people pleasing without even realizing it. By listening to this conversation, you will become aware of the sneaky ways your unconscious might still be placing others' approval before your own self respect and values.
