Everyday I come back to step 1 of the 12 steps of recovery- Admitted we were powerless (over our addiction) - that our lives had become unmanageable. This speaks to me on so many levels, as an alcoholic, with Al-Anon, as a codependent, and with the world as a whole. But the start of the healing process, the Soul Recovery process comes when we can admit that we are powerless and begin to let go the control go and surrender. When I admitted I was powerless to my addiction and other unhealthy behaviors, I actually was given a strength and power that was exclusively about choosing a better and happier life for myself. I stopped giving my power away to those circumstances and behaviors that had controlled me for far too long. There is always hope, always a way to a happy and healthy life, if we are willing to do the work, and change ourselves.
