At 10 p.m., a hospital technician pulls into a Walmart parking lot. Her four kids — one still nursing — are packed into the back of her Toyota. She tells them it’s an adventure, but she’s terrified someone will call the police: “Inadequate housing” is enough to lose your children. She stays awake for hours, lavender scrubs folded in the trunk, listening for footsteps, any sign of trouble. Her shift starts soon. She’ll walk into the hospital exhausted, pretending everything is fine.

Across the country, men and women sleep in their vehicles night after night and then head to work the next morning. Others scrape together enough for a week in a motel, knowing one missed paycheck could leave them on the street.

The Slow Burn of Becoming Yourself 

成为自己是一场缓慢的燃烧

We spend so much of our lives chasing a polished version of ourselves — as if one day we'll wake up with a name that fits perfectly, a purpose that clicks into place, a life that finally makes sense. But the self is never meant to be a finished sculpture. It's more like a river — shifting,  expanding, carving new paths in quiet persistence.

Finland's delegate to last month's Miss Universe pageant held in Thailand has sparked controversy and outrage after a photo of her pulling the corners of her eyes went viral.

In recent years, more and more Hollywood celebrities — from Miley Cyrus to Demi Moore — have been going under the knife for what's known as buccal fat removal.

When French authorities interviewed Eric Freymond earlier this year, one of their first questions for the Swiss wealth manager was a simple one: Tell us about your relationship with Nicolas Puech, the Hermès heir who had given Freymond effective control over a fortune now estimated at more than $15 billion.

The big question after Zootopia 2 grossed nearly $560 million globally over the long Thanksgiving weekend wasn’t: How did a sequel to a 9-year-old Disney toon net the fourth-largest worldwide opening ever? Instead, it was: Why did the breakout gross come not in North America, which delivered a strong but earthbound $158 million over the five days, but in China, where it made $272 million over that same timeframe?

Walt Disney Animation's Zootopia 2 is off to a roaring start. The animated sequel has smashed past the global box office milestone of $100 million within just days of release, signaling a major win for Hollywood's year-end slate.

The biggest headline comes from China. Zootopia 2 made a staggering $34 million on opening day alone, marking the biggest first-day haul ever for an animated film in the country, and the strongest opening day for any Hollywood release there since May 2021. All this translates to big expectations, of course. Analysts think the bunny and fox buddy-cop adventure may clear 200 million dollars in its first weekend in China.

Dozens of people died on Wednesday in Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in decades. The blaze tore through the Wang Fuk Court residential complex in Tai Po, in the northern New Territories. The complex is made up of eight 31-storey towers containing about 2,000 flats that house about 4,800 people.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown but the bamboo scaffolding and green construction mesh may have helped it to spread quickly across the apartments.

The authorities have been phasing out bamboo for safety reasons but the Hong Kong and Kowloon Bamboo Scaffolding Workers Union has previously said it opposes the retirement of bamboo. The natural variation in the size and shape of the poles means that binding them together into a scaffold requires the skilled eye of bamboo masters, who fear their livelihoods may be at risk if Hong Kong transitions to steel frames.
