Chen Ning Yang, a Nobel Prize-winning theoretical physicist whose feel for mathematical aesthetics helped reveal a surprising kink in the weave of nature, died on Saturday in Beijing. He was 103.

诺贝尔奖得主、理论物理学家杨振宁周六于北京去世，享年103岁。杨振宁对数学之美有着敏锐的感知，让他得以窥见大自然规律中令人惊叹的不规则之处。

Yang left China for the US in 1946 to attend the University of Chicago on a scholarship, earning his doctorate two years later. Among the faculty who praised Yang at Chicago was Nobel laureate Enrico Fermi, who recommended him to Julius Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, who was at the time director of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University.

1946年，杨振宁获得奖学金，前往美国芝加哥大学求学，两年后获得博士学位。求学期间，曾获诺贝尔奖的恩里科·费米等教授对杨振宁赞誉有加，费米还把他推荐给了“原子弹之父”罗伯特·奥本海默，奥本海默时任普林斯顿大学高等研究院院长。

At Oppenheimer’s invitation, Yang joined the institute and worked there for 17 years, crossing paths with scientists such as Albert Einstein and Freeman Dyson.

To facilitate his work in the US, Yang became an American citizen in 1964. He said the decision was “painful” and one he came to regret, because his father, even on his deathbed, refused to forgive him.

K-pop powerhouse TWICE has made history as the first K-pop girl group to perform at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, one of the world's most recognized fashion spectacles.

I'm not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created. The idea is as ludicrous as me checking with the boss I had when I was twenty-one for what opinions I should hold these days.

This was back when the death, rape and torture threats against me were at their peak, at a time when my personal security measures had had to be tightened considerably and I was constantly worried for my family's safety. Emma had just publicly poured more  petrol on the flames, yet thought a one line expression of concern from her would reassure me of her fundamental sympathy and kindness.

Like other people who've never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame, Emma has so little experience of real life she's ignorant of how ignorant she is. She'll never need a homeless shelter. She's never going to be placed on a mixed sex public hospital ward. I'd be astounded if she's been in a high street changing room since childhood. Her 'public bathroom' is single occupancy and comes with a security man standing guard outside the door. Has she had to strip off in a newly mixed-sex changing room at a council-run swimming pool? Is she ever likely to need a state-run rape crisis centre that refuses to guarantee an all-female service? To find herself sharing a prison cell with a male rapist who's identified into the women's prison?

A new catchphrase is sweeping China’s social media: The Beauty of the Boom Years.

一个新的流行语正在席卷中国的社交媒体：经济上行期的美。

Using apps like RedNote and Douyin, people are reviving memories of the 2000s and the early 2010s with photos of daring outfits, upbeat songs and vintage TV commercials, all of which, in different ways, evoke a time in China that pulsed with optimism.

A judge has thrown out the top counts in Luigi Mangione’s state murder case — rejecting claims that the accused killer can be charged as a terrorist — in a huge blow to prosecutors.

In a ruling released Tuesday, Judge Gregory Carro tossed charges of murder in the first degree as an act of terrorism and murder in the second degree as a crime of terrorism against the 27-year-old Ivy League grad.

Nina Dobrev has opened up about the real reason she walked away from The Vampire Diaries at the height of its popularity — a pay gap she says never closed, despite her years as the show's only cast member juggling multiple roles.

妮娜·杜波夫（Nina Dobrev）坦言了自己在美剧《吸血鬼日记》（The Vampire Diaries）人气巅峰时期离开的真正原因——尽管多年来她一直是该剧唯一一位分饰数角的演员，但是她的薪酬差距问题始终没有得到解决。

Nina shared that the studio refused to raise her salary to match her male co-stars, claiming it was "out of principle." The studio even restricted writers from using Katherine because it meant paying her more. Co-creator Julie Plec recalled, "It got really heated, and so it basically got phoned back down to us writers that we were not allowed to write Katherine in at all ever."

I've been practicing the art of detachment for at least a year now. The aim is to be actively involved in life but less attached. Many great thinkers have spoken about the wisdom of detachment. "The root of suffering is attachment," notes Buddha. 

我修习“超然之道”已经一年有余。所谓超然，是既要投入生活又要减少执着。许多伟大的思想家对此早有洞见。佛曰：“执念是痛苦的根源。”

Life is a series of experiences: a combination of states we go through. Where people fail is that they get attached to a state of transition and define their lives by it. They get attached to how things should be. If life doesn't match their expectations, they get frustrated, angry, depressed and even lost. That's the pain of attachment.

人生是一系列体验的叠加，会经历各种不同的状态。人们常犯的错误，就是执着于某种过渡状态，并以此来定义自己的生活。他们固执地认为“事物应该如何”。当现实与预期不符时，便滋生出挫败、愤懑、抑郁乃至迷失——这正是执念带来的痛苦。

Detachment doesn't mean withdrawing from life.

放下并不意味着逃避。

It's showing up with your whole self without needing to control the outcome. Psychologists talk about "secure attachment" versus "anxious attachment." The first one allows you to connect while maintaining independence. It's a healthier way to live. Attachment creates suffering because it ties your happiness to something external. Detachment frees you to find peace within. You can't control any outcome or how people behave, so why give them that much power over how you feel? Life isn't something you own. It's something you experience.

它是全心投入却不强求结果。心理学家将执着分为“安全型”和“焦虑型”，前者让人在维系关系时保有独立性。这是一种更健康的生活方式。执念之所以产生痛苦，在于将幸福系于外物；超然则助你回归内心安宁。既然无法掌控结果和他人行为，何必给予他们控制你如何感受的莫大权力呢？生命从来不是占有，只是一场亲历。

Meet Xing Zhilei. Rather than splurge on flashy toys and furniture, this man has drawn from his engineering background to build a cat-sized world. His latest, and arguably his most impressive endeavor, is a working subway station for his cats, complete with a moving train.

Named Cat Town Station, the model has exact proportions for Xing’s cats to move around and exit the trains comfortably, mimicking real-world subways at a much smaller scale. The whole project is packed with charming details, such as a cat conductor, who looks sort of puzzled as it tries to operate the train, as well as seats, signage, and working tracks. There’s even a PA system to welcome its arriving passengers and tactile paving for the visually impaired. It’s just as if a real-world subway station was shrunk down to kitty size.
