Alcohol and the Armed Forces

Following on from last week's episode on drinking culture amongst workforces, we wanted to focus on one of the most problematic of them all - the Armed Forces. Sadly, we are all too aware of the number of ex-vets who struggle with alcohol and drug addictions upon leaving the Army. However, given neither Hame nor Vic know barely anything about this subject - they have had to call in the big guns! Two fascinating women with real first hand experiences of this problem. The first is Helen Bennett who watched her brother Matt struggle with alcoholism for years following a challenging time as a Royal Marine in his early 20s. And Pam Diamond, an addiction nurse specialist with the Royal Marines Charity with over 30 years of experience. This episode is not necessarily a funny one - but it is an important one. We are hugely grateful to both Helen and Pam for sharing their stories with us.
