Anger and Rage in Motherhood with Dr. Sophie Brock

Listen Later

Anger and rage in Motherhood is a taboo topic that’s rarely discussed. Perhaps that’s due to the guilt and shame mothers feel about those moments that they ‘flip their lid’. Many will question why they feel so angry, perhaps they’ll even ask what is wrong with them. This version of themselves is so foreign to that they knew pre-kids, it can be like they barely recognise themselves. If these thoughts are familiar, take heart in knowing there are(likely many!) reasons underlying them, and understanding is the first step to change. This week, Jacquie is joined by Dr. Sophie Brock, a sociologist and motherhood researcher, with a particular interest in anger and rage in motherhood. Dr. Sophie offers an important perspective on the experience; one that has catalysed ‘lightbulb moments’ for mothers across the globe. During the conversation Dr. Sophie explains ’the perfect mother myth’ and details how you might be falling into the anger-guilt trap. If you are struggling with either, or are unsure if you need additional support, please reach out to your GP, health care professional or PANDA (Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia) https://www.panda.org.au Normalising the range of emotions experienced does not equate with condoning aggression towards children.
