Narcissists, Dopamine and Addiction to Narcissistic Supply: Recipe for a Toxic Relationship
The Narcissist's Body Chemistry Causes Reduced Dopamine and Addiction to Narcissistic Supply
After a fascinating conversation with a GENIUS client this morning, I had to share this interesting and scientific take on narcissistic personality disorder.
So, do you believe that Are narcissists really ADDICTED to narcissistic supply? In short - yes - and there's a biological reason for it. It doesn't matter whether the narcissist's supply is "good" or "bad" - in fact, the only thing that matters is that the supply comes with the admiration and elevation that the narc needs to feel like life is okay.
That, and the supply must be reliable and consistent - not to mention predictable. Of course, if the narcissistic supply deviates from the program the narcissist will come down on them like fire rains down in hell. There will be no end to the punishment and abuse - that is, unless you choose to end it yourself as the supply.
As with all addictions, of course, there are both good and bad sources of supply.
Of course, if you ask the narcissist, he or she would tell you that any source of narcissistic supply is better than none at all.
In today's video, I'll fill you in on the psychology of a narcissist as well as the physiology, up to a point. I'll teach you why the narcissist's childhood could've caused his or her brain to be rewired in a very dysfunctional way and why that means bad news for you.
Plus, I'll tell you how the narcissist becomes addicted to you as supply and how the brain's chemistry is involved in all of this.
