In today's vlog, I'm going to share a manipulation tactic used by many toxic narcissists to keep their victims under control and to keep them within the oppressive limits of their abuse.

Fair warning: this video may piss you off. I got pretty upset when I made a connection that I hadn't before between the minimization tactic and cognitive dissonance - but throw that in with a real-life example from one of my clients and you've got a recipe for frustration - but also, in my opinion, a way to shine light on something very few people talk about - how narcissists minimize the physical and/or emotional abuse - and the psychological games they play to make you doubt your own reality.

Being with a narcissist in a toxic relationship is incredibly confusing sometimes because while they put you up on a pedestal at the beginning (and at various times throughout the relationship during the love bombing and hoovering phases), they also often cycle through the devalue and discard phases.

When the devalue phase is happening, narcissists act like they hate you - they spew venom and hate your way and they have no concern for how it makes you feel.

They rarely apologize and even when they do, it's almost always in a backhanded way that leads to your own misery.
