Gaslighting is when a narcississt manipulates you by subtle psychological means into questioning your own sanity. It's a gradual process that's sometimes hard to identify - but you know it when you've experienced it.

Are you being gaslighted by a toxic narcissist? If you are someone who is struggling with a toxic relationship or recovering from one, especially a family-based one or one with someone you see or speak to daily, you may have had so much conditioning that you aren't even sure which way is up.

Why does the narcissist want you back after discard? Here's the truth.

Toxic people with narcissistic personality disorder are famous for the old devalue and discard phase - and we all know how narcissism and gaslighting go hand in hand.

As people who have been used and abused by narcissists, we think that once they've finally discarded us, it's over.

Sadly for the victims of narcissistic abuse, it's almost never that easy. Even if your narcissist has moved on with a new supply, you may find yourself being courted again within a month or two of the discard - and when I say courted, what I really mean is hoovering and love bombing episodes, during which the narcissist will often tell you how much they love and need you - and a lot of us (me included) have fallen for this more than once.

In today's vlog, I'll tell you the truth about why the narcissist wants you back and why he or she may never leave you alone - unless you put an end to it. Plus, I'll share how it affects you when you do say yes to a narcissist.

How to Abuse an Empath

There is an incredibly toxic attraction between an empath and a narcissist.

Shockingly, it's not just the narcissist that drives the paradigm of abuse - it's also the person the narcissist is inevitably attracted to - the empath.

An empath is someone who has "the ability to read and understand people and be in-tune with or resonate with others, voluntarily or involuntarily of one's empath capacity."

Since an empath actually feels the feelings of other people, they have trouble not feeling sympathy for the narcissist - even though they clearly don't deserve it.

I thought I was strong enough and it would be safe to meet with him to both speak our peace. I know how bad we all want them to see our side and to try and make sense of it all. It was driving me crazy.

I told him what I know about him, that I would never go back and that I thought he was a POS.

I struck a cord, he attacked me, choking me and telling me he would never let me slip away again, and would kill me. I was fortunate enough to kick him off of me and get away.

I don't want sympathy or need responses. I should have known better.

I want you all to know better.

Closure will never come. It's just not worth it."

What is cognitive distortion in narcissistic abuse?

How to Survive Narcissistic Manipulation in a Toxic Divorce & Thrive in Spite of It

Narcissists are notoriously negative and decidedly difficult people. And whether you're working with one or you are in a toxic relationship with a narcissist, you're bound to be dealing with all sorts of negativity, manipulation (including gaslighting) and even emotional abuse.

Today, I'm answering a question from a SPAN member, who says:

"I'm dealing with the divorce process with my N. Problem is: my husband has had no contact with our son ( his choice) now he's pulled him in to use him...Per court order we are not to sell or give anything away....our son showed up with truck and trailer and stated that his Father said he could have tools, equipment, bedroom set, China and more....I didn't want to look like that bad person so I let our son take a few things...I know he will be discarded after being used... I have decided not to play so I'm going to deal with this issue this way....I'm NOT contacting Attorney ( because I know this is what my N wants me to do... I will explain to our son that per court order that we are not to give or sell anything to anyone, that after alls said and done..these things will still be here and after it's settled...his father can give him what ever he wants!"
