What happens if you reject a narcissist?

When you've been involved with a narcissist in a toxic relationship, you may know that they don't take rejection well.

Between the narcissistic injury and the narcissistic rage that is sure to ensue after being rejected by a source of narcissistic supply, you're almost guaranteed a certain amount of misery when you reject someone with NPD (narcissistic personality disorder).

Do narcissists believe their own lies?

If you've ever been in a relationship with a narcissist, you've most likely been lied to - in big ways, and in small ones.

That's because most narcissists are also pathological liars - and while pathological lying is just one way that narcissists will manipulate you, it goes a lot deeper than your standard truth-twister would.

In this video, I will share a true-life example of a narcissist and the extent of the lies they tell- and how narcs expect you to go along with the lies they tell.

Are all narcissists pathological liars? Maybe.

If you have ever been in a relationship with a narcissist, you know that one of the side-effects is a crippling kind of anxiety - one that makes you stop talking to the people you once felt closest to and focus only on the narcissist's needs/wants/manipulative games.

BUT did you know that anxiety can also affect your attention span? As it turns out, you might even have developed a case of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It's true - researchers have found that there is a link between these conditions.

If you have anxiety, then you're more likely to have attention disorders. Researchers believe there is a brain connection between them. Initial studies on teens reveal that they're more likely to have both issues together.

If you have anxiety or trouble concentrating, it might be a direct result of your relationship with a toxic narcissist. I'll fill you in on the research and explain the connection in this video.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD): The Official DSM-5 Diagnosis Criteria

Have you ever wondered what the official Diagnosis Criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder is, according to the DSM-5?

Symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder: NPD Diagnosis

If a patient would be clinically diagnosed with NPD, a psychiatrist must determine that at least five of the following qualities are factors for that patient.

1. A grandiose sense of self-importance

2. A preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

3. A belief that he or she is "special" and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

4. A requirement for excessive admiration

5. A sense of entitlement – unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations

6. Interpersonal exploitativeness – taking advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends

7. A lack of empathy and an unwillingness to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others

8. Enviousness of others – along with the belief that others are envious of him or her

9. A tendency to arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

Many people are aware of the basic signs of toxic narcissism, but what about the covert narcissist? And what if you're codependent?

Also known as closet narcissism, hypersensitive narcissism and vulnerable narcissism, covert narcissism is sneaky and much harder to detect. And the emotional abuse can be incredibly toxic for an empath.
