While yeast is a normal part of your gut flora, issues can arise when its population gets too high. I commonly see Candida overgrowth in my patients with Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s, with the most well-known species of yeast in the gut being Candida albicans.
Research shows that Candida can contribute to an increase in intestinal permeability, also known as leaky gut, which is one part of the triad of autoimmunity. Today, I’m exploring whether Candida can trigger thyroid autoimmunity and how to test for and manage Candida overgrowth.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- How Candida overgrowth may contribute to the development of autoimmune thyroid conditions
- Pros and cons of Candida overgrowth testing methods
- Signs and symptoms of Candida overgrowth
- Challenges with testing for small intestinal fungal overgrowth (SIFO)
- Dietary recommendations for managing Candida overgrowth
- Natural treatment options and medications for Candida overgrowth
As always, I hope you find this episode valuable, and I look forward to catching you in the next episode!
