Recently, the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission and the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration made special arrangements for the 2023 National Postgraduate Entrance examination team in regard to issues of epidemic prevention, and answered questions from journalists.

近日，教育部、国家卫健委、国家疾控局对2023年全国硕士研究生招生考试组考防疫工作进行了专项部署，并就有关问题回答了记者提问。

All entrants and monitors for the upcoming National Postgraduate Entrance Exam are required to take a nucleic acid test, according to a release from the Ministry of Education on Wednesday.

根据教育部周三（12月14日）发布的考试安排，所有要参加考研的考生和监考者都必须进行核酸检测。

Issued by the Ministry of Education, National Health Commission and the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control, the release mandated local authorities to set up separate test centers for participants who test positive and emergency test centers for those with abnormal temperatures and other severe symptoms.

教育部、国家卫健委、国家疾控局发布的考研防疫工作部署中表示，应按照“一类一策”组考模式，分类设置考场考点，切实保障各类考生和考试工作人员身体健康和生命安全。对于阳性等特殊考生，由属地自行制定赴考等保障措施并组织实施。全力实现各类考生“应考尽考”。

Utmost efforts are to be made to ensure all entrants are able to take the exam, ensure their safety, and that the exam takes place as scheduled between Dec 24 to 26.

应尽最大努力确保所有考生都能参加考试，确保他们的安全，并确保考试如期在12 月 24 日至 26 日之间举行。

Entrants should wear masks before entering test centers and are advised to keep them on during the exam. Each test center will be equipped with masks, hand sanitizer and at least one medical worker. 

考生在进入考场前应戴上口罩，并建议在考试期间佩戴口罩。每个考场将配备口罩、洗手液和至少一名医务人员。

Proper ventilation and disinfection should be conducted before and after each exam and local authorities can take extra precautions to minimize the risk of infection.

All test centers will be equipped with wireless signal shielding equipment to prevent cheating. All entrants are required to undergo identity and safety checks to prevent any communication equipment entering test centers.

Local education authorities will work with public security and market regulation authorities to crack down on the sale of devices for cheating and organized cheating, the release added.

China will stop publishing daily asymptomatic COVID-19 case counts starting from Wednesday in order to adjust to recent shifts in testing and quarantine rules, the National Health Commission said.

国家卫健委表示，我国将从周三（12月14日）开始停止发布每日无症状感染者病例数，以适应最近检测和隔离规则的变化。

The commission said in a statement on Wednesday morning that authorities are no longer able to grasp an accurate tally of asymptomatic infections because many people have stopped undergoing regular nucleic acid tests and mass screening has been called off in most regions.

卫健委在周三上午的一份声明中表示，由于许多人已经停止接受定期核酸检测，并且大多数地区的大规模筛查已被取消，当局无法再准确掌握无症状感染者的统计数据。

Currently, only workers in key sectors and people willing to take the tests are being tested for the virus as an adjusted measure to cope with the highly transmissible but less virulent Omicron strain, said officials.

The commission began publishing daily caseloads of asymptomatic cases on April 1, 2020.

On Tuesday, the mainland reported 2,249 confirmed local infections and currently has a total of 35,274 confirmed local infections, including 150 severe cases, said the commission.

In response to public doubts over a drop in reported infections as many have noticed surging infections around them following the policy adjustment, Li said that the discrepancy is partly a result of fewer tests being conducted nationwide.

为保障在家休养的无症状轻症患者在需要时能够得到及时救助，卫生应急司副司长高光明表示，要求基层卫生室安排工作人员24小时值班，及时对接回应当地居民的需求。

"Meanwhile, communities and village authorities should arrange nucleic acid testing and disinfection work properly," he said.

Travel agencies have forecast that the tourism market will embrace a robust recovery during the approaching Spring Festival holiday in late January in the wake of the government's continued optimization of COVID-19 control measures.

The BQ.1 subvariant of Omicron has emerged on the mainland but no marked increase in its pathogenicity has been reported, and reinfection with COVID-19 does not increase the risk of severe illness, health officials and experts said.  

卫生官员和专家表示，奥密克戎的亚分支BQ.1已在中国大陆出现，但其致病性没有明显增加，新冠肺炎的二次感染不会增加重症风险。

The mainland has reported 49 cases of BQ.1 or its sublineages in nine provincial-level regions. However, no widespread transmission has been reported and no infected patients have been found to suffer more severe symptoms compared with patients who've contracted other variants.

目前我国已在9个省份的本土病例中检出BQ.1及其亚分支49例，但尚未广泛流行，所致病例数较少，也未观察到感染BQ.1后临床严重程度较其它变异株增加。

"Currently, the dominant strains in circulation in China remain BA.5.2 and BF.7, and both are sublineages of BA.5," the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said on Tuesday.

“我国现阶段流行的毒株仍以BA.5的亚分支BA.5.2和BF.7为主。”中国疾病预防控制中心12月13日表示。

The center made the statement in response to online rumors that BQ.1 and its offshoots were wreaking havoc in Japan with their high transmissibility and high death rates.

BQ.1, which also belongs to the BA.5 family, was first detected in Nigerian patients in June and began spreading in September in Europe and the United States, and gradually rose to become the dominant variant. Because the virus is constantly mutating, the National Health Commission said on Tuesday that recovered COVID-19 patients are not immune to repeat infections.

"However, data from overseas has shown that the chance of getting infected with Omicron again within three to six months after the first bout is very low," the commission said.

President Xi Jinping has called for concrete steps to protect China's intangible cultural heritage in a systematic way and promote Chinese culture around the world.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in a recent instruction on the protection of intangible cultural heritage after UNESCO added traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on Nov 29.

UNESCO added traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China during the 17th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Rabat, Morocco, on Nov 29. Chinese tea bears numerous traditions in terms of preparation, processing, serving and consumption, UNESCO said.

Elon Musk's "extremely hardcore" vision for Twitter seems to have manifested itself in sad little conference room sleeping quarters at the company's recently depopulated headquarters.

A photo of one converted bedroom showed bright orange carpeting, a wooden bedside table and what appears to be a queen bed, replete with a table lamp and two office armchairs just begging for social workplace collaboration.

One source said that no announcement or context was provided to employees, and presumed that the beds are for remaining "hardcore" staffers to be able to stay overnight at the office. "It's not a good look," they said. "It's yet another unspoken sign of disrespect. There is no discussion. Just like, beds showed up."

Another source, who was similarly granted anonymity, added that several of the rooms were on a floor that was largely empty. They noted that there was trash in one room’s trash can, which made it seem like someone had stayed there. “People are already putting in late nights, so it makes sense to an extent,” the source said.

His remains were cremated on Dec 5 in Beijing, followed by a grand memorial meeting the next day to mourn and pay respect to him.

A famous health tip says you'd better drink eight glasses of water (about two liters) a day. However, the results of a new study suggest that less is needed.

11月25日，一项发表于国际学术期刊《科学》的研究，首次揭示了人类全生命周期需水量规律，也颠覆了以往许多人对饮水的认知：研究显示，每天8杯水的饮水建议可能超过大多数人真正的需水量。

An international group led by scientists at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT) in China found that the average daily water intake of a man in his twenties should be 1.5 to 1.8 liters, while it should be 1.3 to 1.4 liters for a female in the same age group.

在该研究中，中国科学院深圳先进技术研究院医药所、深圳理工大学（筹）药学院科研团队联合近100个国际团队，对26个国家共计5604名受试者进行了研究，样本年龄覆盖8天大的婴儿到96岁的老人，推导出全球首个用于预测人体每天需水量的公式，首次揭示了人类全生命周期的需水量规律。

研究发现，20至35岁男性每天的水周转量为4.2升，30～60岁女性每天的水周转量为3.3升，此后随着年龄的增长而下降，到了90多岁，都下降到2.5升左右。

The researchers investigated 5,604 participants from the ages of 8 days to 96 years and from more than 20 countries, using isotope-tracking methods. They have found that a man aged 20 to 35 consumes 4.2 liters of water each day, while a woman aged 30 to 60 consumes 3.3 liters, with the water requirements dropping as he or she ages.

值得注意的是，水的周转量并不等于饮用水的需水量，例如，一名20多岁的男性每天水周转量为4.2升，但并不需要饮用4.2升水，因为人体代谢和体表水交换可提供其中的15%，其余85%的需水量来自食物和饮水，食物和饮水各半，因此该年龄段男性每日平均饮水量为1.5至1.8升。

Since the metabolism and water exchange on skin can provide 15 percent, while food and drinking contribute half each of the remaining 85 percent, people are thus suggested to drink less than 45 percent of the total dailyturnover, according to the researchers.

"The majority of people perhaps don't have to drink 8 glasses of water a day," said Zhang Xueying, co-first author of the paper and an assistant research fellow at the SIAT.

The total water input and output varies according to multiple factors, including body size, physical activity, air temperature, humidity, and altitude, according to the study.
