Dr. Garth Davis is the medical director of weight management at Mission hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, and starred on the hit TLC show Big Medicine.

In addition to Proteinaholic, Dr. Davis is author of The Expert’s Guide to Weight Loss Surgery. Dr. Davis graduated from the UT in Austin where he was the Student Government President. Dr. Davis completed his surgical residency at the prestigious University of Michigan. While there, Dr. Davis underwent extensive training in general surgical disciplines, specializing in laparoscopic procedures.

Dr. Davis has been named a Texas Monthly “Super Doc” several times, most recently in 2015. Dr. Davis is a recognized expert in initial bariatric procedures as well as revisional bariatric surgery, and frequently lectures on the importance of a plant-based diet. He is dedicated to helping people discover the foods and adopt the behaviors that can lead to a healthy and happy life.

Now that he’s totally recovered Proteinaholic, Dr. Davis competes in marathons and Ironman triathlons. He lives in Asheville, with his family, a shy cat, and an absurdly large dog.

Christina Miller, MD, FACEP, is double board-certified in emergency and integrative medicine. After spending ten years in the emergency department and serving as president of Colorado ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians), she radically changed her practice to health promotion, due to her own health concerns and being overwhelmed by the amount of chronic disease and illness seen in the ED. She studied nutritional science and plant-based nutrition, completed a fellowship in integrative medicine, and now focuses exclusively on nutrition and lifestyle changes to get to the root cause of disease and illness, while promoting wellness and longevity in each individual. Instead of treating emergencies in the ED, she is now helping to prevent and reverse chronic illnesses and empower people to live with vitality.

She enjoys teaching plant-based, nutrient-dense cooking classes to both groups and individuals, and helped establish a free clinic outside of Aspen, Colorado for the underserved. She lectures locally, has spoken around the country with Younger Next Year best-selling author Chris Crowley, as well as in corporate wellness programs promoting good nutrition and healthy lifestyle. She has contributed significantly to the nutrition chapter for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) handbook and wrote wellness-promoting tips for the emergency physician. She is founder of Eat and Live Healthfully website and blog and served as the medical director of Aspen Valley Hospital creating their Integrative Medicine program. She was also selected to be a member of the Pitkin County Board of Health, where she helped with policy and public health concerns. In 2019, she moved to New Hampshire, worked at an integrative clinic in Vermont seeing patients, teaching classes, giving lectures, and reaching out to the local community. She is now proud to be part of the start-up company, Plantbasedtelehealth.com, offering plant-based telemedicine services to patients across the country, reaching people who otherwise wouldn’t have access. Her goal is to continue to share the information and the resources necessary to help empower people to take back their health, prevent and even reverse chronic illness, and create long-lasting true health and vitality. One of her favorite mantras is, “Together we are healthier”.

On a personal note,

I also have my own story, as I was diagnosed with lupus in 2009,. I had initially presented with joint pains, which rapidly progressed to heart, lung, blood vessel, and kidney involvement. I was on 6 medications, including high dose prednisone and immunosuppressants, and chemo drugs. I had to quit my job in the ER at this time, because I was so immunocompromised. It was a very depressing and dark time in my life, and I was scared for my health. This is when I googled diet for lupus patients, and learned about plant-based whole food diets. I transitioned immediately after learning about it, but my healing was still a long course. I was not one of those people who went plant-based and all of my medical problems went away. I tweaked the diet quite a bit to a full autoimmune healing diet, developed a comprehensive mind-body program to calm my nervous system and stress hormones, improved my sleep, and made other lifestyle adjustments. I also had to eliminate toxins completely and overhaul many aspects of my life. It’s been quite a journey, and I live a very different, much more awake, aware, and present life, for which I’m ultimately grateful. This is what I am so passionate, about and what I work so hard to share with my patients. Dr. Aajay Shah is a board certified cardiologist that specializes in pacemaker implants, cardiac catheterization, transesophageal echocardiography, as well as nuclear and vascular studies. Originally from Gujarat, Dr. Shah moved to the United States after graduating from Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad, India in 1986. He started his medical residency at McNeal Hospital in Berwyn, IL and later continued his cardiology fellowship at Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center before entering private practice in Okemos, MI.

Dr. Shah is a very passionate doctor when it comes to cardiac health. Cardiac health is so important to him that he founded "Healthy Living with Dr. Aajay Shah" a short 4 months ago and have already grown to over 8400 followers. He promotes healthy lifestyle changes to his patients, family, and friends daily but his main goal is much bigger. He wants to change our community, then Michigan, and eventually the world. His mission is to help those that are struggling to gain control of their lives; to teach proper nutrition, effective exercises, and positive thinking.

Dr. Shah resides in Okemos with his wife of 34 years. They have two children; a son that is a lawyer in Maryland and a daughter that is a Medical Student in Philadelphia.

Healthy recipes definitely plays a big part in his new movement. People aren't educated enough to know how to eat healthy, what to buy, and how to make it. We launched a "Healthy Recipes with Dr. Aajay Shah" on Instagram to merely focus on healthy recipes. We post up to 5 times daily. The recipes that we promote are strictly vegan, no oil, or salt. Dr. Aajay Shah is very passionate about this type of diet because it is the healthiest.

Mic the Vegan is a vegan science YouTuber that covers a variety of topics from the health effects of a vegan diet and the environmental impact of eating animal products to the sociological phenomenon of casual animal exploitation. Today I had the pleasure of meeting Plant Based Gabriel, a real dynamo with an inspiring story you must hear. He cooks an easy and delicious bean burger while he's talking. If only I knew what he knew at 25!

Gabriel Miller is an author, speaker, chef and avid gardener. Gabriel was a starting football player at the University of Nebraska until he suffered a career-ending back injury. At the time, he was also pursuing a degree in livestock production, but after his injury he began to do his own research on diet and health. Unable to maintain his previous active lifestyle, Gabriel began searching for ways to lose weight and become healthy through his diet. In the process, Gabriel found that what he was learning in his classes not only contradicted what he was learning about health, but also contradicted his own beliefs about animal welfare and preserving the environment. Still, Gabriel chose to finish his degree while also pursuing his own research into sustainable and ethical agricultural practices that promote health. Now 100 pounds lighter than his playing weight, Gabriel runs his blog, Plant Based Gabriel, which is focused on helping individuals and families transition to a plant-based diet and vegan lifestyle. In addition to producing helpful recipes and videos, Gabriel also loves working on his vegan and organic vegetable farm.

Today I have the pleasure of talking to Dr. Michelle Tollefson who after 2 negative mammograms 2 years in a row was diagnosed with breast cancer. Please watch her motivating and inspiring story.

Dr. Michelle Tollefson is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Lifestyle Medicine. She is the current secretary of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.(ACLM) and serves on their Board of Directors. She founded and oversees the first Bachelor of Science in Lifestyle Medicine in the United States, in Colorado.

She is the founding co-chair of both the ACLM Women’s Health Member Interest Group as well as the Pre-Professional Lifestyle Medicine Education Member Interest Group. She also serves on the Education and Membership Committees of ACLM. She is the co-guest editor of the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine ACLM 2020 Conference Edition. She founded the first Bachelor of Science in Lifestyle Medicine in the United States, at Metropolitan State University of Denver where she is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Professions.

She volunteers at a non-profit clinic where she provides lifestyle medicine focused women’s health care. She lectures nationally on a variety of women’s health and lifestyle medicine related topics and is a member of the ACLM Speaker’s Bureau. She is thriving after breast cancer and advocating for lifestyle medicine to play a role in every woman’s ability to truly thrive after a cancer diagnosis. Enjoying the Colorado outdoors with her husband, two very active young boys, and teen daughter is her favorite way to spend time.
