Brandon Sanderson is my favourite author of all time. He writes incredible fantasy books, including Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive, and wrote the final 3 books of The Wheel of Time. Brandon's output is legendary - he writes books almost faster than we can read them, and he teaches creative writing at Brigham Young University. I recorded this episode with Brandon as a live stream during the 2020 lockdown, and because it was one of my favourites I wanted to share it with you again as a bonus episode.
In the conversation, we discuss how he kept going when his writing wasn’t being read, the question of originality and how we can make the stuff we need to do (work) more fun. Enjoy!

Hey friends, my guest this week is Rupy Aujla - an NHS medical doctor, entrepreneur and podcaster who’s life changed when he suffered a serious heart condition at the age of 23 while working busy shifts as a hospital doctor. But with the power of nutrition and lifestyle changes Rupy was actually able to reverse his condition. He then started his blog, The Doctor’s Kitchen, which soon evolved into a podcast, best selling books, regular television appears and most recently an app. In the conversation me and Rupy chat about a lot of things: his early days working as a doctor and burnout, how to optimise your lifestyle for longevity and his transition from a doctor to a creator and entrepreneur. Enjoy!

A lot of the time we can find ourselves on this hamster wheel of trying to optimise every waking hour of our days, hyper-focused on time and paranoid about how the decisions we make today will influence our future selves. But ultimately the hamster wheel just keeps on spinning when we don’t take a moment to slow down, reflect and enjoy the moment.

Many of us dream about turning our passion or hobby into the thing we do everyday, but very few of us actually do it. In this episode I talk to World Barista Champion and co-founder of Square Mile Coffee Roasters James Hoffmann about how he had the confidence to make a career out of coffee. Expect to hear how he built a bricks and mortar business from scratch, his regrets about hustling and burnout, and how he’s amassed a YouTube following of 1.23M subscribers.

What’s involved in the equation for success? Some say its talent, innate intelligence, education, privilege, grit, or simply dumb luck. Regardless of how many of these things you think may or may not be on your side, my guest this week will show you how to level up your motivations and aspirations to get the success you want.
Bobby Seagull started his life from humble beginnings living on a council estate in East London before rising to fame as captain of Emmanuel College Cambridge on the BBC quiz show University Challenge. He’s now a school maths teacher, author and the go-to maths guy for the BBC on a mission to encourage people that they can achieve anything they set out to achieve.
