In this podcast, Dr. Michael Greger discusses the impact of hypertension, or high blood pressure, on public health. He states that hypertension is the number one risk factor for death globally, as it contributes to various health issues such as heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure. Dr. Greger emphasizes the importance of achieving ideal blood pressure levels, around 110 over 70, through diet and lifestyle interventions. He recommends reducing sodium intake and substituting it with potassium salt. Additionally, he suggests including whole grains, herbal tea, and vegetables rich in nitrates in the diet to help lower blood pressure.
