How can you help your child who doesn’t want to go to a visit with their other parent and the visits are court-ordered?

As a protective parent, you have a lot of weight on your shoulders.  This is especially true when your child is anxious, acts out, or refuses to go on visits with their other parent and the decision is outside of your control because they are court-ordered. 

I decided to do a follow-up episode to last week’s episode with Dr. Cocchiolla because I get so many questions about how to handle these situations and because this dynamic, leads to moral injury for you.  In this episode, I share strategies that you can put into place as a protective parent when your child is anxious about going on their court-ordered visits.  These include:

• Playful strategies for pre-visit activities and rituals
• Last-minute anxiety-reducing strategies for those anxiety spikes right before the transition to the other parent
• Things you can say to a child who is anxious or says they don’t want to go to their court-ordered visits
