5 years ago I read a paragraph in a book that had a profound impact on my life.  It changed the way that I thought about my happiness, my goals and my purpose.

 Yep…one paragraph…one moment and things haven’t been the same for me since.

The book was called Clarity and here is that paragraph…”the hidden hamster wheel is the mistaken idea that our “core states” such as security, confidence, peace, love, happiness and success can be provided or threatened by our circumstances;”

The “hidden hamster” wheel as it’s referred to in this book is often described as the “I’ll be happy when trap”. 

Think about for a moment…how much of your life is focused on trying to get or achieve certain goals so you can allow yourself to feel things:

…I’ll finally feel worthy when I see 100 pt visits a week

…Everything would be way less stressful in my practice if I just had more new patients.

…I’ll be happy when I meet the person of my dreams

…My life will be fulfilled when I finally have children

The truth is you could feel worthy, less stressed, happy and fulfilled right now if you just knew how!
