February 2015 I spent $1,300 in Amazon PPC. From that money spent I generated 11o sales. But, the true magic is ranking for keywords organically and because I spent on advertising I ranked organically for many keywords. It helped me sell an additional 1,100 units from organic search traffic, which didn't cost me a penny.

Awesome interview Scott. This is very helpful. I’ve sourced from Alibaba before and am actually based in China at the moment. My fiancee is getting into sourcing and I’m sharing your podcast with her. While her goal is not to become an Amazon seller, she will definitely gain a good perspective on some sourcing basics.

Re: Alibaba. The company is a giant as you already know. A few of their properties here include the mentioned Taobao (which is the Amazon/eBay), Tmall (for brands, like Zappos), Alipay (PayPal), AliExpress (low MOQs), and 1688 (wholesale website catered to Chinese buyers).

Re: Gold Suppliers. I believe Alibaba has introduced a low priced plan which made the website crowded with a lot of inexperienced or dishonest agents. Previously, it cost at least $4,800 per year to become a Gold Supplier. Many trading companies saw this as a small amount compared to what they could sell and bought in. After a lower price point was released, even more are pretending to be manufacturers.

Re: Shipping. There’s this company called BOXC. While perhaps not for Amazon Sellers, the startup is based in Shanghai and can do dropshipping for factories that won’t.

There's many sellers out there that are blowing these numbers away, but I wanted to share my journey and hopefully share how I plan to grow my business over the next 12 months.

In this Episode of The Amazing Seller Podcast I'm going to answer a couple questions I received from listeners about product selection and competition.

I'm going to give you my opinion and how I would approach this in my own business. I personally don't want to always have to heavily promote my product. I would rather go after products that may have less daily sales, but easier to rank and market moving forward.

My plan would be to go after a more competitive product after I have built my brand and have a higher seller feedback rating. This will also allow me to cross promote using my other products using my BRAND. This is why I only want to release products that support each other. It's so much easier to sell to your existing customers than always having to find new ones.

- Best Seller Ranking between 500 to 5,000 top 10 listings

If I find a product that is close to my metrics I look at how I can make the product more valuable or better quality. I would look through my competitors 1, 2 and 3 star reviews. See what people are complaining about and fixing it or adding it to my product.
