We think we know what it means to “be creative” but do we really? Or have we been subtly indoctrinated by a culture that so worships productivity and achievement that we have missed what creativity actually is, what it means, and why it matters? In this season of the podcast, I’ll ask those questions and more. I’ll find some answers, I’m sure, and leave others to a mystery I may never fully understand. In today’s episode, I explore what it looks like to follow your impulses and share why I’m learning this is an essential element of creativity. “But what if my impulses are selfish? What if they are born from ego? What if they lead you down a dark path?” I’ll explore these questions and more. Whatever you call them — impulses, intuition, or that still, small voice — hearing and responding to that subtle knowing is one important key to creativity. Join me as I share my own experience of hearing and following my impulses.
