1. Narrow your focus. Stop taking every case. Become an expert in one field and only do that. You will run cases more efficiently and make more money.
2. Set a goal. The truth is that it doesn't really matter what the goal is. Having a goal and telling people what it is is the important part.
3. Know your numbers. Most lawyers don't have a firm grasp on their P&L. It scares us. But you have to know how much money you're making, how much you're spending, and how much you're keeping.
4. People and alignment. This is the most important of the four, but it comes last because you have to be clear on the first three before you can hire, train, and fire people who are aligned with the vision of where you want to go.
