Recovery is already complicated and so when we add the piece of abusive behavior and character traits to the mix it can be even more confusing. We want to be careful how we use this word in relationship to addiction as well as address the reality that this is a key piece to real recovery. Deflecting and keeping from being found out is what addicts do best. Real recovery comes with a self awareness around this, an actualization of the impact the addiction has had in the lives of their spouse and those around them. Restitution is not just recovery from the addiction but healing the behaviors and flawed value system that produces abusive behavior as well. 

We know that this can be a triggering topic and highly encourage those of you who think. there might be abuse in your relationship to reach out to someone who is qualified to guide you in this area of your recovery and healing. We know that change is possible when awareness is present, acceptance is allowed and application is initiated.
