They highlight the reality that mass shootings, while devastating, are still just a small part of the picture, as gun violence is a daily reality for many. The ease at which people can purchase weapons is alarming, especially considering guns are the leading method for suicide in America. Thinking of gun violence as a public health issue would bring this fact into more discussions. Jackie discusses her career in Chicago, and the horrible reality of gun violence in that city — disproportionately so for people of color.
