Having Hyperemesis, Gestational Diabetes & Pre-Eclampsia - Aisling Keenan

Listen Later

How it feels when pregnancy makes you ill.

In this episode our host Sinead O'Moore is joined by journalist, beauty editor, creator of Private Education podcast and brand new mum Aisling Keenan because after the initial joy of conceiving, hyperemesis kicked in, followed by gestational diabetes and then right at the end, pre-eclampsia for good measure.

Her experience took her so far away from loving the process, from loving her bump.

It denied her the joy of joining in with the excitement, the moments of glow. Of loving pregnancy.

And here she explains how it wasn't just the nausea, vomiting or high blood pressure - it was the grief for the pregnancy she had hoped for, the guilt for not feeling the things pregnant women are supposed to feel, the vulnerability for the first time being so ill. The absolute isolation of growing a baby while so sick within her 4 walls.

And then the relief…. When it was over.

It’s ok to hate the symptoms of pregnancy.

Our bodies go through so much - so if you are not ok, take all the help you can, speak to your Gp or hospital team and be cared for.

Don’t suffer and don't be hard on yourself.
