Get In Touch!
In this episode, I talk about something that I genuinely believe is missing from so many health anxiety recovery journeys.
When we're struggling, it's so easy to think the answer is more information. We read another article, listen to another podcast, watch another video or search for that one breakthrough that will finally make us feel safe. I know that because I did exactly the same thing.
But what I've learned, both through my own recovery and from coaching hundreds of clients, is that we often overlook the very foundations that help our brain and body feel safe in the first place.
Your brain and your body are constantly communicating with one another. If you're exhausted, dehydrated, under-fuelled, stressed and running on empty, your nervous system is already on high alert. When that's the case, it's so much harder to regulate fear, think rationally and respond calmly to physical sensations.
That's why recovery isn't just about changing your thoughts. It's about looking after the body that's carrying those thoughts too.
In this episode, I'm sharing the simple but incredibly powerful fundamentals that have helped me and so many of my clients. We talk about improving your sleep routine, eating regularly so your blood sugar stays stable, staying hydrated, moving your body in a way that reduces stress hormones and rebuilds trust, getting outside for fresh air and natural light to regulate your nervous system, connecting with other people instead of isolating yourself, and making space for joy, hobbies and the things that remind you that life is about so much more than your health anxiety.
I also talk about one of the biggest traps I see people fall into: turning recovery into a full-time job. When every waking moment is spent analysing symptoms, consuming recovery content or trying to "fix" yourself, your brain never gets the message that you're actually safe. Sometimes the most healing thing you can do is step away from recovery and go and live your life.
I'll also leave you with some simple daily self-care check-in questions that shift your focus away from how you feel and onto what you've done to support yourself. Because recovery isn't measured by whether you felt anxious today. It's measured by the choices you made despite the anxiety.
My biggest hope is that this episode reminds you that safety doesn't come from finding certainty or getting one more piece of reassurance. It comes from how you live your life every single day and the small actions that tell your brain, over and over again, "I'm safe."
If you enjoy this episode, I'd be so grateful if you could follow the podcast, leave a review and share it with someone who needs to hear it. And if you're ready to take the next step in your recovery, I'd love to support you through my coaching programmes and recovery tools.
