TSH is a pituitary hormone that communicates with the thyroid gland and essentially tells it to produce more thyroid hormone.
As a result, when someone has hypothyroidism - low thyroid hormones - typically, they'll have elevated thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels. On the other hand, when someone has hyperthyroidism - elevated thyroid hormones - they'll generally have lower TSH levels.
Today, I’m sharing the foundational details you need to know about TSH and how to balance TSH levels, whether you have hypo- or hyperthyroidism.
In this episode, you’ll learn about:
- Different considerations for balancing TSH levels in hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism
- Reference and optimal ranges for TSH according to different labs and practitioners
- Medication and natural agents for balancing TSH
- Hormones to be tested in a comprehensive thyroid panel
- How long it can take for medications versus natural agents to impact hormone levels
As always, I hope you find this episode valuable, and I look forward to catching you in the next episode!
