How Light Affects Our Circadian Rhythm and Overall Health with Roudy Nassif of Vivarays

Roudy's Story:
Roudy has suffered from ADHD, headaches, and eyestrain since childhood. No matter what he did - consulting with doctors, trying out different diets and supplements, and seeking advice from various health experts - he was unable to feel better. He continued to struggle with sleep and productivity.

He carried this frustration as he grew older, still unable to find any solution. That is until he tried farming and lived a life exposed to the outdoors, with the sunrise and sunset just around the corner. This life-changing experience allowed his health to transform, with remarkable changes to his sleep, focus, and overall health. This led to his curiosity in studying light and its effects on the circadian rhythm.

Light and the Circadian Rhythm:
Light sends signals to your body regarding which hormones it must produce at specific points of the day. The reason we feel sleepy, energized, or productive is all affected by the intensity and type of light we expose ourselves to.

Take the sun as an example. The sun provides natural blue light that does not spike like artificial blue light. It is also mixed with different shades, allowing our bodies to become energized and alert as we start the day and expose ourselves to sunlight, leading to cortisol production. As the day progresses, we have the sunset, which has a more red hue, reminiscent of the bonfires that our ancestors exposed themselves to at the end of the day, ramping up melatonin levels and preparing us for sleep.
