Do generational differences matter? In society, in politics, in the workplace? For all the argument, debate, and discussion about the impact of Gen Y and Millennials as 'blocks', there are an equal amount of arguments that claim these generational labels are meaningless, and people need to be valued and managed simply as individuals.

Does the greater context of life experience, exposure to technology, and the major societal events actually shape and help define a generation in ways that can be evaluated and leveraged.

Can multiple generations survive and thrive in the workplace if these larger and broader trends are not appreciated?

I know the GenY is a silly label folks will be out in force telling us these kinds of debates are crazy, but I am not so sure.
