I posted about my experience with depression on IG last week and so many of you related to what I had to say. I decided to go deeper and share a bit more about that in today's episode.
I'm talking about the subtle ways that depression shows up. It's not always situational or debilitating sadness. There are some things that I have learned about myself over the years to stop depression from tapping on my shoulder.
Note: I'm not a medical professional. This is just my experience. Please reach out to a mental health professional ASAP if you are suffering from depression or have thoughts of suicide. 800-273-8255 is the national suicide hotline.

You've seen the quote in various forms floating around social media and I bet you've pinned it to your "thinspiration" Pinterest board too. "Being fat is hard. Losing weight is hard. Choose your hard."
In this Irresistible You Podcast episode, I'm unpacking this quote and what it really means to "choose your hard."

Bad body image is so deeply embedded in our culture and society and it has been festering for many years. It is an epidemic among women no matter their size or weight. I was scrolling IG and noticed an abundant amount of "thin" women that were body shaming themselves. My first gut reaction was to think, "You don't have the right to complain!!" Then, my logic brain kicked in reminding me that these women are deeply wounded too, even though they don't know what it's like to be the "fat girl." None of us have escaped diet culture and body image issues! I hear these women complaining about their weight or body type and I giggle b/c that's actually MY goal weight or dream body! The moral of the story here is that your words have impact to not just yourself . . . but also the people around you! I'm fired up. Let's chat.

The most challenging part of the weight loss journey is addressing the emotional weight that is holding you down. It's never just about the food - it's about WHY you're using food as a relief and escape from your life. In this episode, I'm getting pretty personal about what's been going on for me over the past few weeks. I was so angry over the past week that I have to constantly make food and weight a priority. I'm at a place in my life right now where I don't have any margins left just for me and I'm exhausted from the pandemic, the isolation from it, and becoming a new mom again while also running a business with two kids at home.
So, the thought of having to plan my meals, take my walks, journal, and tune into my emotions had me so pissed off. I kept looking at it as ONE more thing I have to do when I'm already emotionally and mentally spent. So, out of my rage I took my foot off the gas and stopped weighing in, stopped tracking, and stopped planning. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to your weight loss journey. I'm going to share with you 5 things you can do right now to stop the zombie walking cycle and take accountability for what you want.

How many times do you tell yourself, I'll do it when I finally get to my goal weight. When I lose some more weight, I'll buy a bathing suit, I'll book the vacation, I'll meet up with old friends, I'll take better care of myself. I know that for some of you it goes even deeper with things like, "when I lose the weight, I'll start dating, I'll have kids, I'll leave this toxic relationship, etc." You are putting your life on hold for a number. You are waiting for some magic moment to happen on the scale where then you can give yourself permission to live your "best life." What if I told you that your best life is actually happening right now? In this episode, we are going to talk about why you wait for the weight and how to start living in the moment because we don't have time to wait for some bullshit magic unicorn moment.
