  • Nyakio Grieco: Co-Founder, Thirteen Lune
Nyakio Grieco is a serial beauty entrepreneur. She’s the founder and creator of Nyakio Beauty, an award-winning skincare brand that paid homage to her beauty secrets learned as a child while visiting her grandmother and watching her use coffee beans to exfoliate her skin. In 2016, she sold the brand to Unilever and it’s now exclusively sold at Target with cult-favorite SKUs like their Cleansing Oil Balm and Rescue Oil. Today, she’s using her two decades worth of expertise in the beauty industry to launch a much needed business aimed at building a more inclusive beauty industry. Earlier this month, she co-launched Thirteen Lune, an e-commerce destination designed to inspire the discovery of beauty brands created by Black and Brown founders that resonate with people of all colors. The website sells products made for all people by BIPOC-owned brands, features a through fully curated selection of products made specifically for Black and Brown people, and emphasizes ally brands that have made a measurable effort to create an inclusive product lineup. Launched with thirteen brands, an editorial platform, and a long list of allies, also known as their “Vanguard,” Thirteen Lune's mission is to reframe how Black and Brown beauty brands are perceived not only from an industry perspective, but also for the consumer, giving each brand a platform to sell, educate, and engage with wider audience like never before. In this episode, Nyakio tells us about her experience building a beauty business pre-social media, a behind-the-scenes look at creating Thirteen Lune, and how everyone can take part in pushing their message of inclusivity forward.    Visit ThirteenLune.com and follow them on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/thirteenlune/ Keep up with Nyakio on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/nyakio/ Read Nyakio’s story for Refinery29 here https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2020/06/9849590/nyakio-grieco-black-entrepreneur-racism-covid-19-interview   Produced by Dear Media

  • Amanda Litman: Run for Something

Amanda Litman is the co-founder and executive director of Run for Something, an organization that supports and provides tools necessary for young, progressive Americans to launch local campaigns of their own. Since its founding in 2017, Run for Something has recruited 60,000 people to run for local office across the country, endorsed nearly 1,000 candidates, and has seen the successful election of 304 of these, 54% of whom are women, 47% people of color, and 18% LGBTQ. Prior to launching Run for Something, she was the email director (no, not those emails) for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, deputy email director for Organizing for Action, and an email writer for Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. Today, she's also the author of a book and host of a podcast by the same name, both which document her journey in politics and highlight the inspiring journeys of some of her Run for Something candidates. In this episode, Amanda and I discuss the importance of local elections, how Run for Something’s candidates are changing the landscape of American politics, and her best advice for coping with the upcoming election month.

  • Sarah Ramos and Caroline Goldfarb: The Renner Files
What do actress Sarah Ramos (Parenthood, The Affair) and writer/comedian Caroline Goldfarb (The Late Late Show with James Corden, Alone Together) have in common? They’re hysterical, devoted pop culture enthusiasts, best friends, and recently launched a podcast series called THE RENNER FILES. THE RENNER FILES, created, hosted and produced by the duo, is a new kind of true crime podcast - one that’s not a true crime at all. Instead, it’s about Jeremy Renner’s app. Why did Oscar nominated actor Jeremy Renner ever have an app? Why did he do it? Who made it?  Who used it? And why did it shake the internet to its core? They set out to investigate the mystery of the app, but got so much more in return. THE RENNER FILES lays out a thrilling timeline of the app’s rise and fall through talking head interviews with key players, journalists, and unexpected Renner experts (like actor Seth Rogen). But it also tells a larger story: one about the dangerous side of celebrity fandom, the ethics of audience exploitation, the celebrity influencer complex, and the destructive power of ironic internet comedy.  In this episode, we talked about their fan-filled childhoods, from Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen cruises to NSYNC concerts, to navigating the entertainment industry, and a behind the scenes look at what went into creating one of the mosts provocative podcasts out there right now. Starting September 24th, an episode of THE RENNER FILES will be released weekly on Thursdays for six weeks.
