Beliefs are pretty much who we are and they have the ability to create or destroy us. Empowering beliefs are beliefs that gets you to where you want to go. Beliefs also align with values.
What’s the difference between limiting beliefs and fear? There are two types of fears. Legitimate fears, for example I do not want to touch a hot stove. There is really good fear. There is a lot of bad fear.
When you look at how you tell the difference between limiting beliefs and fear is it whether or not you have taken action or is deeper than that? A lot of times limiting beliefs are preventing us from taking action. Surround yourself with people who will help you raise your standards.
How do you go about identifying a limiting belief? A lot of times you can’t identify them on your own because you need someone to cover your blindspots.
Exercise: - Write down the beliefs you have.
- Circle the ones that are empowering.
- Identify how they are getting you to where you want to go.
- Then look at the disempowering beliefs and question them.
- Where did I develop these from?
- Who did I develop this from?
- How is this limiting me from getting to where I want to go?
- Was the person I learned this from worth modeling?
Essentially you are creating doubt through your questions. If you associate enough pain to those beliefs you’ll change them. We focus on determines what we feel.
How do you prevent that limiting belief from creeping back into your thought space? Create empowering beliefs. Affirmations are important and affirmations are only as important as the action that you take.
If people are going through this exercise on their own, how do they go through the process but also be sensitive to the fact that there is a lot of emotional weight behind and care for themselves in the process? It depends on where you wan to go. Limiting beliefs are extremely general. Once you identify the limiting beliefs, pick them apart and create the doubt. Then ask how do I create empowering beliefs. We do things to avoid pain or gain pleasure. The next step is to take massive action. Reveal that fear is actually a feeling and not a fact. Take action a lot.
How do people know what their identity and mission are? The thoughts you own about yourself is your identity. Identify limiting beliefs, turning that into empowering beliefs, which is then your identity, then taking massive action.
